Default ipod, technical Q

Have bought our ipod from uk and have recently bought an itunes voucher, downloaded itunes in Aus on a laptop and tried to put music on it but when we plug the ipod in you either have to erase and start again as its synced with our playlist on our desktop. Why can't you buy more music and add it to the ipod without erasing the stuff already on, it won't transfer whats already on there. Does anyone know the answer or have any suggestions, i though it would be simple, how ANNOYING!!!!!! Thanks in advance for any help

If when you have initially setup the ipod, did you set you sync up the ipod for manual syncronisation or automatic?

When you initially attached the ipod to the laptop, you should have got a setup menu. Apparently you need to click the manual option. On you summary page look for a box that says something like restore settings. It should. There should be a option box to tick for manually select songs/photos, tick it.
Not 100% sure myself, as I have had the same problem and am still learning by trial and error.

the bloke is right you can do it

you hit "no" or "cancel" or whatever is "dont format my ipod" and it'll let you itno itunes. Then on the "my ipod" type of page where it shows you the memory usage for hte ipod, and about 4 tabs up top for audio/video etc then there are some tick boxes at bottom/middle of this front screen and one of them is 'sync manually' or 'only sync checked items' - you need that ticked.

Welcome to the wonderful world of iTunes. A place where you have to import files in to iTunes when they're already on your computer anyway!

Feel that intuitiveness
