iPad - Just get one

From what I have learnt - an iPad is like a big iTouch so in that respect you can't upload stuff to it very easily - they have made some sort of adapter to enable photos etc to be put on but I've heard it's one reason people don't go for it - depends what your PC is used for .... accounts, word processing (how old fashioned does that sound) etc still are best done on a proper keyboard in my opinion!

I've got much better things to do with $700. Buy food for example. We've got four laptops and four mobile phones and three MP3 players - that'll do I think. Not a fan of Apple but that's not the point

They'll bring out a not quite as good, not so polished OS, buggy product like the phone manufacturer's.

When I was in Hong Kong I went to a few of the top stores and asked if I should buy an iPhone to replace it.
They all said no, buy another Samsung Omnia HD. So I did. Much better speakers and screen than an iPhone.

The best thing about the ipad is that they are eligible for the 50% education tax deduction. So if you have kids you get half your money back, my sons ordered the 64Gb wifi version which will only cost $440 after the tax back.
