I was vaguely underwhelmed by Job's keynote ... but I predict I'll own one by the end of the year.

Re: iPad

Neat first step for tablets, I really wanted this iTab to live up to my expectations, especially since I can use my already purchased iPhone applications on it. Was expecting much more though, very underwhelming.

- No Flash = A good portion of the internet is disabled.
- No HDMI out = No HD video on TV.
- Apple OS lock down, must sync with iTunes to put media on instead of WiFi, also need to trans code all media files to Apple supported file types before they work.
- No specific operating system = not using hardware to full potential.
- No cell calls, disappointing considering its running the iPhone OS.
- No multi-tasking, WHAT???
- No camera, so no video chat, video capture, pictures or augmented reality applications, etc.
- Thick bezel around screen.
- No widescreen for movies, back to the box.
- 1GHZ CPU, possibly lower performance than most netbooks.
- No surprises.

Despite its flaws, the software from Apples ecosystem will make this device 100x better than it currently is. Hopefully the next gen version is out by then.

Funnily enough I was about to post this link from Gizmodo - http://i.gizmodo.com/5458382/8-thing...about-the-ipad - but you paraphrased it pretty well there.

Ah, so it's geekspeak for software systems.

I'll have to file geekspeak next to management talk as things to hate.

Re: iPad

I predict... that this is not the last we will hear of the iPad. Wait until you have one in your hands before judging it.

Multi-Tasking is in the OS, all of the main default Apple Apps use it, and it is being enabled for 3rd Party developers in iPhone OS 4.0 which is coming in June. iPad is released prior to this thus "no (3rd party) multi-tasking" at launch.

You think that a 1Ghz processor is not good enough for this device? Really? It's not a NetBook/Laptop, it's a large iPod Touch. I would bet that it screams on that chip. The gaming certainly seem fast enough.

My prediction is that one of the low-end WiFi only models will be on the desks of every school kid within 6 years.

Even Australians are criticising them (and the price) on the Age. Who would have thought?

Ive got an iphone and kids have ipods.
However was not really impressed with the ipad. Cant really see the point in it. My 18 year old is also not impressed.

Also tad worried the screen would break pretty easy at that size and no cover/lid.

But the worst bit is the name.

Very deliberate, they want to push HTML5.

I am disappointed in it, I really hoped for a cut down version of OS X at the very least, they have clearly not gone for the corporate market where I believe they could have made a killing. With an office suite, decent handwriting/soft keyboard, ability to dock quickly as you go to and fro meetings (which it can do) it would be fantastic as an office machine.
