Oh thats right, you can't.

Yes you did tempt fate, ha ha ha :p

LOL! Taking the battery out wouldn't have done anything, it had put itself into recovery mode, and needed restoring.

It's all working again now though.

Last night whilst syncing my iPhone, it reported an error. So I went to restore it.

It backed the phone up, and then "preparing iPhone for restore" message for about 15 minutes. Then, I get an error message. Phone now stuck in usb + iTunes mode.

Managed to get it into DFU mode, and iTunes found it, went to restore, but at "verifying restore with Apple" it got another error.

It's dead as a dodo.

Just trying it on my XP machine now. It's found the phone in recovery mode, just downloading 3.1.3, and hoping it'll restore the bastard.

I think I tempted fate yesterday!!

If you haven't resolved this yet - Take the SIM out and let it restore the iphone. Then put the SIM back in and sync.

Steve Jobs will be really impressed with that. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying an iPhone. If a person wants Android they may as well just purchase one of the new Android 2.1 phones. That's unless a person already owns an iPhone and doesn't want to lay out cash for a new phone.

That's actually quite a threat to Apple's business model. I wonder what their response will be.

People buy iPhone's because they do work well, straight out of the box. I can't see that too many mass market consumers are going to rush out and flash Android on to their iPhones.

I doubt that Jobs is quaking in his shoes right now, but it does demonstrate the apparent ease at getting Android onto different hardware platforms, which to me has always been one of it's big advantages.

Will all my friend be shafting their warranty/jailbreak to use it as they want?

Fairly hard to understand your English, but you seem to be suggesting that using one of the common jailbreak suites invalidates your warranty, which is of course bullshit. Not that I've ever had any desire to jailbreak my phone.
