Default Insulation Recommendations For SE QLD Please

Learned people,

Anyone had some installed, what's the skinny?

We have a 100 Square Metre low-pitch roof with crappy access and don't fancy doing it ourselves ... been up there a couple of times and not keen to repeat the exercise. Yeh, slack, but life is too short ...

So, Batts? 23 packs we reckon ... range from $650 to $800 depending on the R rating (R3.0 to R4.0). Installation extra obviously, from what I can work out a typical 'supply and install' quote is around $1400 for Batts.

What about the other more exotic options? Spray in stuff or aluminum-backed and all that jazz? What about contamination into our gutters and then our (drinking-water) tank?

Ta for any insight and advance apologies for no 'UK Insulation is great, Aussie is crap' controversy.

Matt

Only trouble with spray in stuff is that when you come to sell, the building inspection guy will have to note that he cannot inspect the roof space, due to insulation. Oh, and it makes a right flaming mess if you cut a hole in the ceiling. To put lights in. And if you have downlights installed they need to be PROPERLY shielded from the insulation as they are a fire hazard!

Thanks Andy, something to consider there ... we don't have any fancy lights installed but it may be a consideration for future maintenance up there, which reminds me, really must get the wiring looked at before we do all this ... surely it can't be right that switching on the shower will mute the TV?!

You've only got problems if when you turn the light switch on...... it says Hello!

Having seen the standard of electrical work here, nothing surprises me anymore. It ain't just the Aussies either. Some of the pommie sparkies are letting their standards slip somewhat!!!!
