Initial Accomodation Costs
#17
He had a budget for initial short term accomodation of $300 to $500 per week. When I said it will be closer to $700 to $1000 per week he laughed and said "oh well we will move into a caravan for a few weeks". He stopped laughing when i said that is for a caravan.
What were or are your expectations on various items:
Price
Facilities
Location
Your thoughts people? perhaps warnings or recommendations (without outright advertising). Any thoughts for short term accomodation between $300 and $500? (Family of 6, 2 adults, 4 kids).[/QUOTE]
Hi, my advise is shop around - sometimes deals can be found if there are cancellations or it's 'a quiet time' for example we are doing May for $550 per week (for 3-4 weeks).
It is difficult finding longer short term accommodation (if that makes sense!) last minute, but there are a variety of websites such as 'stayz' that host houses & appartments all over the Gold Coast.
Maybe if you are prepared to compomise a little (no pool, kids on put up beds etc) you will have a little more success .....
Good Luck

we're still in the UK so haven't tried and tested this yet... But we're booked in with www.australianhomeaway.com.au for 3 months when we arrive (longer than most I know but we want to go straight from their to our own property if we can find one)
we're paying $350 a week for a one bed flat, they have family homes too though around the $500 mark I think.

Its another part of the whole moving process to consider. The time of the year can be crucial as during the summer months you will be paying way more.
