Tell you what though... I bet they had some days when they thought "this is a bit tough.. not feeling 100% happy about all this"... because they are/were human beings.. we are not supposed to happy all the time... if we were then sod all would have changed in the last 100,000 years and we would still be tree swinging... its precisely because we have days when we think "this is shite" that things move on.
I seem to remember those various hostages in the 90s talking about bleak hours and depths interspersed with positive thought. People are just capable of hardships that they never thought they could deal with. I find it hard just getting out of bed to be honest. |

Of course. I was actually going to add that it would be easy for these people to reflect on this positive attitude after the event, or after they continued to slog on for another hour. (Reminds me of that 'Day in the Life' story about that Russian held captive in a gulag).

Tell you what - I reckon that many, (ie. not all) expats and migrants have choices (to move or not to move) which is more than some British or Australians have. Migrants and expats sometimes have choice in their new country too which locals don't have.

Why wouldnt you worry about a son as much as a daughter?? This sounds like a very old fashioned misconception to me.... Anyway, as I am old, I am entitled to be old fashioned :D |

Anyway, as I am old, I am entitled to be old fashioned :D One last statement from me I promise. If positive posters are capable of negative thought but can't be arsed to report it, and negative posters are capable of positive thought, then maybe what you tend to post is a summary of your state of mind, thoughts, or motivation on your migration as of now - and we do see changes of course. There has to be some motivation. So it's academic. I think people have to accept what people say at face value as noone really knows. But civilisation has always placed value on positive thought and action and self-improvement, even if it takes critical self-analysis to get there. I don't think other people can criticise this positivity if you have already got there. And my kids have helped themselves to the contents of the freezer. I am in it now! |

For example, if my best mate or my partner is always turning up late or is selfish at times or whatever. I acknowledge that as a 'negative' in our relationship but doesn't mean that I like them any less, or that it's their "fault", it just means that you accept people warts and all; the good the bad and the ugly. Same principle.

ABC, people are allowed to dislike things about Aus you know. Even those that love it here will have things they aren't keen on.
I have no problems with people having problems with Australia, however I do try to be more specific with places in Australia to show them that it may not be the same everywhere in Australia, or to compare options such as wooden fences or colourbond fences, where this whole thing started :D I reckon your best mate would turn up just as late in the UK ? Would you then blame the UK for it ? |

I think the point being made was that you don't seem to give anything other than positive opinions about Oz.... on EVERY subject... and no matter how great Oz is for you it can't all be postive, all the time, surely?. There must be something, anything, where you could come on and say "yep, I agree. That really is crap here in Oz"
As it happens you will see that many of my posts are statistical, and are not specifically positive on Australia as such. Tax Rates, Populations etc Others are ideas on prices on how some areas of Australia cheaper than other areas of Australia. By default if I say that a loaf of bread is $1.10 in one shop but $3.40 in another shop, I am being positive about one Australian shop and negative about another Australian shop. However that gets turned into me being a person who doesn't seem to give anything other than positive opinions about Oz. I am still trying to work out the logic in that. I actually rarely compare the UK to Australia. And to be honest, there is nothing that I would say is crap here in Australia for me. But then, we may just have different definitions on the meaning of "Crap". I consider crap to be something sufficiently bad enough to warrant complaint. |
