I got the dreaded phone call

Well living on the other side of the world sucks at times like this.

My mum phoned this morning to say they found a cancerous lump on her annual mammogram this week :(

Shes having it removed on 2nd July - apparently its tiny and she will hopefully only need radio therapy afterwards - but its just that 'C' word isnt it.

Life f***ing sucks sometimes.

Sounds like they've caught it early, try not to worry too much. Yeah, I know it's easy to say

Be positive for your Mum, like the others have said, it looks like they have caught it early.
I am sure she knows how much you love her, but, tell her again and again:D
Let us know how she gets on
all the best

Thanks guys

I really dont know what to feel at the moment - a bit numb - just in shock I think. The docs make it sound so simple......we'll just remove the lump and then you 'may' need radiotherapy. Wish there were no emotions attached to the 'C' word :(

Re: I got the dreaded phone call

We had the same thing happen last year it was my MIL she had something come up in her mamogram, it turned out to be breast cancer she got the lump removed radio therapy the all clear went back for a check up and it had came back same breast waited 2 weeks to see the specialist in that time it had spread to both breasts, she was told she needed a double masactomy. It was a really hard time we felt to useless being over here we were going to go back but she was having none of it she said she didnt want us too!!

All turned out well in the end she was over in March we were a bit shocked when we seen her she was bald because of the chemo, she had a great time over here though and is fighting fit again her hair started growing back she has got herself a new job all is well, we are glad now we didnt just rush back and she was glad to come over here, after all her treatments it was just what she needed!!

Hope all goes well with your mum, my thoughts are with you!!

Thanks for that - not good to hear that it came back so quickly but def good to hear that the outcome was good. My mum has already decided that she want the entire breast taken off and I go along with that decision. The doc says the outcome would be the same so theres no need - I dont care how small the lump is now....I know from bitter experience how quickly these things can change. If ever it were to happen to me too I would have my breast taken off - no question about it at all.

Great news about your MIL :)

It really sinks in just how far away we are doesn't it? And all you'll be wanting to do is go and give her a cuddle:(

I hope everything goes well for your Mum and they get everything sorted out for her.

Keep your chin up :)

Sorry to hear this Rach, but hang in there. The prognosis for treatment these days is so good when it's caught this early. :)

Yep...we all dread 'that' call from home don't we? A couple of years ago I had to have a biopsy following a mass detected on my mammogram...it was benign but I'd decided to have a double mastectomy if it was cancer.

Thank goodness it was caught early...my very best wishes for her speedy recovery.
