Don't forget that the number of people wanting to leave a country is not always a good indicator of how bad a place is. Ask Vash to show you some research on how many Australians leave "utopia" every year (mainly for the UK).

Also those very same potential migranmts who want to leave the UK often end up returning from Australia to the place they wanted to leave - check out the moving back to the UK forum!!

You might be! It depends on whether you will say in a few years time...

"I can't believe that I gave up a fairly big house, a new car every two years etc etc etc"!

You are kidding right? I takes me ages to cross Sydney, in fact it takes so long It's one of the reasons I stay away from the place. Everywhere here is just so much further away from everything that even if trafic is less (whick it isn't in the cities) you more than make up any time saving by distance traveled. Driving in Melbourne was mad and time consuming too, as was Brisbane although not as bad as the other two.

And wait until you get stuck in the traffic lights of Perth.

Or stuck on a highway at a stupidly low speed limit (and then break the speed limit and get nicked like I did on the very last day of double demerit points)

Blimey Arkon havent you realised that Australia is totally crime free and they give you a million bucks when you come through customs ,then wish you a happy life .
God knows what these people think they are coming to with all their reasons for leaving the uk are identical to the ones why people leave aussie .You only have to look at australia to see it has bigger cities than any in the uk apart from london ,so it only makes sense it has the same problems and for those coming here to perth youll be lucky to get into Balga, koondoola, girrawheen ,for under 400000 dollars and they are crime ridden ,drug ridden ,state housing areas with their associated problems ie shootings ,car thefts ,its a lot of money to live in a dump .

My 2c:
There is a degree of truth in that in 'attainment', Australia is sort of 1(minus) - narrowly missing a straight '1' only due to geograhical circumstance and isolation - I wouldn't talk about it in terms of 'where' matters.

Having said that, when you compare Australia to real 2nd and 3rd world countries, it is definitely 1st and if not so, then it makes up for it with 'effort'. ( ) How many 2nd and 3rd world countries have the likes of Perth, Sydney, Melbourne etc.

I'd also go as far as to say that in some real remote areas the infrastructure would cause problems of a 3rd world nature but even this would be averaged out by well off landowners who provide the industry there.

This is my number one problem with us staying in Perth for longer than another 18 months to 2 years.

Not prepared to pay 200k GBP to live in a dump.

I can very much relate to this one.You are right. It is awful after it's happened. We movwd house but the crime here for burglary is so high it doesn't sit well.

It's slack arsed attitudes to work, difficulty in thinking out of the box, regulations for farting and incompetence which rermind me of the third world rather than the infrastructure.

My reason for wanting to leave the U.K was never made on crime or immigration.I have been a victim of crime and I do not fear it either.

If you read my post I said it was the first time I really thought about the crime that way in nearly 2 years so the crime is not my main reason for wanting to leave the U.K.
I run every other day whatever the weather and regularly come back soaked. Today is Sunday and we are taking the kids to the lake but we have been stuck in for pretty much the last 2 weekends which hacks me off. One of the main reasons I want to leave is the weather, remember last years very, very long winter.
My brother has lived in Australia for years and I know from him that youngsters cannot get on the housing ladder. He has also been addicted to hard drugs in the past. I personally think that burglaries are worse in Oz as it does not seem to be so bad in the U.K anymore. No one turns your house over for a dvd player anymore like they did in the 80's.

The fact it takes forever to go anywhere in the U.K also hacks me off.

Yes there are lots of nationalities in Australia but I still think it is a long way behind the U.K regarding a lot of social issues.I still think the U.K is going the "wrong" way where as Australia has a lot of catching up to do.

BTW if the U.K is not that bad why do polls constantly show a huge percentage of people wanting to leave the U.K, are they all wrong?
its my experience that the brits love to have a good whinge about britain ,from the butcher ,fishman, milkman they all whinge and they all say ''if i had my time again id migrate to australia/NZ'' but they dont .
I look at britain through different eyes when i go back now and i see the oppurtunities the brits are too blind to see and i see the beauty of the place that i once didnt see and the brits dont change they are living in a bouyant economy and still they reckon its crap and its better elsewhere ,god knows what they will be like when it all goes pear shaped .
If you want to talk about taking forever to get anywhere ,try a weeks drive at 12 hours a day to get to sydney from perth in someof the most inhospitable and remote and life threatening [as in heat etc]country on the earth .Where even a short break here in WA is a days drive away to get anywhere and god forbid if you want to fly its cheaper to fly to the uk at times .I dont think you have really experienced the ''it takes forever to get somewhere syndrome yet ''.Sitting in a traffic jam for 2 hours on the A34 will seem like paredise compared to the mind numbing experience of driving in outback australia to get somewhere thats got sweet FA aprt from the best pie shop in the world and goldfish that swim upside down .

Our experience with Australia Post is the worst. Supplies which should take 4 days can take 7 or more for no real reason. Boxes left out on the street.

Telstra just could not get our business contracts sorted out - we think they may now have done it - 12 months after we signed up.

Our software company has free support but they employ kids who just don't know what they are talking about.

Builders and other tradesmen who promise to come out and don't show (having said that our shopfitters were very good). Aircon engineers who charged us $400 for a service and left the unit unworkable.

I agree ,my post may have seemed harsh and by and large the people of KGB are good people ,but the area has always had problems and now its getting bloody expensive and for a future migrant they may look on it as an area thay can afford ,with a closness to the city it has it attractions but then so is Redfern in sydney and that has real issues ,i just dont want to see any one ripped off and ending up in a worse position than they maybe in the UK .
