Default How big is 8 GigaBytes

Physically I mean, what size would you expect an 8 gigabyte memory chip to be. Bearing in mind 8 gigabytes is enough to hold about 12 or 13 dvds on it. And enough to hold a couple of 100,000 books.

I ordered one for my phone, once I discovered I could download tv content onto my phone from the internet. I couldn't believe they could cram 8 GB into a phone

So really how big do you think the chip is? I just received it.

(obviously I didn't post this on 'The Lab' because 100 geeks would know the answer!)

My daughter has a 2gb card for her phone and it's the tiniest thing ever! Probably about 4mm square. I assume an 8gb is either the same size or fractionally larger. Fairly incredible though.

So wouldn't an 8 gigabyte card be 4 times the size?

I've got an 8Gb ipod. Including all the other gubbins in there it must be the size of a stamp and not much thicker. My 250Gb external hard drive is the size of a plastic take-away container.

I don't think so. The SD cards that fit in camera are all the same size physically but have different amounts of memory on them. I assume it's the same with the phone ones. The salesman showed us a 1gb one which was the same size.

I am still seriously impressed that the diddy thing in her phone has a bigger memory than my old PC

Samsung announced a 64 GB SD Card about three weeks ago, haven't seen one or the price yet.

The following is an IBM 5 Mbyte hard drive from about 40 years ago, the cost was in millions.

The size doesn't matter - it's what you do with the 8 gigabytes that matters!!!

As this seems to be a bit of a techy thread, and I am desparate for acceptance into the modern era, can anyone help me with my ZX81, I'm having trouble with my cassette deck loading up the terradactyl game
