I find for most utils, insurance and rates things are cheaper than we lived in the UK. Rates are 1000 a year. For what we get, I'm more than happy to pay that. In the UK I didn't seem to get much for it.

What do you mean by 'Rates $2000' ? (you know by this i live with parents haha)
Im going to be moving to brisbane, renting probably a one or two bedroom apartment in the centre.
I'll be earning $43,000 / year, living on my own. This wage will be tax free i think (its tax free in the UK anyway..) as i will be working out of the country for atleast 6months a year.
So if it's tax free I suppose you can increase my yearly wage to an extra 38%, so about $70,000 normal persons yearly wage who works in australia all year.
Will this wage give me a comfortable living in the centre of Brisbane with a nice apartment? In the centre of London i'd be in poverty on this wage.

Sorry that $70,000 and 38% is wrong.
It should have been $50,000.
It should have been $50,000.

we just have hot water at the moment.... three months in and we are still running off the original two cylinders we purchased when we moved in. Gas company reckoned we'd be through them in six weeks...?!

What sort of area would i be looking at if on $50k?
Please take into account that im out of the country for 6months a year, during which I have no food expenses, no utility bills to pay for etc.
So really its looking to be about $45k for 6months a year.

If you do either you've still got expenses to cover whilst your out of the country.
Here's just an indicator:

Being out of the country for 6 months of the year will not necessarily save you money. For tax the issue will be where you are the other 6 months and then a determination of which country you are resident for the full year. If somewhere else your local Oz income will no doubt be required in their assessment.
What happens to your rental for the 6 months each time your out of the country? You expect to get a 6 month lease each time? with furnishings?
Why are you grossing up by 38%?

I could be anywhere really, for instance on saturday im joining the ship in dubai, travelling around the east coust of africa, south coast and west coast, then back around to dubai then india. Stopping off at several different countrys along the way.
and then a determination of which country you are resident for the full year.
I will be a full resident of Australia, as I will be looking to gain permenant residency.
Very unusual circumstances, therefore theres not much information on the internet.
I know your not the tax man though so probably wont be able to help me much hehe. (or maybe you are the tax man?
)

I would probably be looking to be able to get a 6months lease each time with furnishings, there seems to be quite alot on estate agents websites over there.
Am I being unrealistic? As you have probably guessed before ive only ever lived away from home for 3 years and thats when I was at university in student halls, so its nothing like having your own place. This is why im looking into it, just getting a feel for what its going to be like. Surely Brisbane can't be as expensive as London to live?

I made an error of what somebody previously said, i did correct it though
