That is soooo unfair!!! It is obviously different from state to state but it seems strange that the Vic state won't pay us but the Qld one would when it comes out of the same pot of money at the end of the day! It totally sucks!!
But in Victoria, people may be eligible for another $8,000 of First Home Bonuses that the rest of the country can't get.

Well goverments all over do like to confuse and irritate people I suppose.

I guess I will just have to dig deep and find some patience (really not my strong point!) to wait and see if we get the PR visa or not.

Looking at it another way if we were back in good old sunny Scotland we wouldn't get diddly squat no matter what our status was!!

The rules for first home buyer grant are federal. They should be the same for everyone. The rules for stamp duty waiver in QLD are different, because it is a state incentive.

Banks act as agents for the FHOG, so call a bank and ask them what the deal is.

The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is a national scheme funded by the Australian states and territories and administered under their own legislation.

The rules are State based.

No worries mate - it doesn't make sense really. I just spoke to some snotty woman at the Vic revenue office about it and she confirmed that different eligibility rules apply in different states.
When I asked didn't she think it was a bit unfair she said (and I quote) 'it is the states money and they can do whatever they want with it'.
Hmmmm.

Hmm... So why does the federal government set the amount? Anyroad. Who wants to live in Victoria anyway?

We didn't have any choice in the matter of which state we were going to live in. OH's work is sponsoring us and Melbourne is where the Head office is based. We had neither of us been here before we moved so didn't know the difference. I have been campaigning to move to a warmer state since then but to no avail so far! The show is not over yet though...

Thanks for reminding me, I have to pay out electric bill

The ambulance cover portion, by the way, is $25.88 this quarter, so about $103 per year.

Never seen 20 degrees in the three years I've been here. 25 is considered cold.

Ok fair comment - maybe I am a little bit mental
What I really meant when I said a warmer state was one that was consistently warm.
I have just heard they have had some snow in Tassy today. But no 47 is not good. Somewhere in between would be nice.
