Default Hong Kong Changeover

We have a six hour wait between flights, has anyone used the travellers lounge with children. (aged 8 & 9)
Is it worth paying for the lounge, or use the main lounges and restaurants.

Thanks

Have you considered getting out of the airport and going into the city? First time I traveled through HK with my Children (4 & 7) we went by train to central and had a meal in the city and rode the tram to the top of the peak.

Quite an experience for a stopover and we were back in the airport within 4 hours.

I agree. Get out of the airport into the city if you can.

6 hours is borderline for getting out of the airport, getting anywhere, doing anything and getting back.

We've done this transit a few times with the kids (albeit much younger than yours) and generally find that by the time we've got off the plane, freshened up a bit, found our way around the terminal including going through a security point (and dealt with re-checking in on occassions) then we've used up an hour and bit easily.

Theres an OK quiet lounge area (fee) beside one of the gates which is worth it if you fancy a lie down and sleep for a while and its worth wandering upstairs and grabbing a bite to eat to kill another hour.

After sitting on a plane for hours not being able to move you'd be surprised how nice it is nto to have to do anything a for a while in the SPACE of an airport terminal. 5 hours passes in no time....

I LOVE HONG KONG!!!!!

Any opportunity to do something.....

If you had a plan you could do it and it would be great. the peak is tricky because so often the view is obscured by pollution or cloud but on a sunny day worth the trip ten times.

If you get through customs within 30 minutes, def worth putting your bags in lock up for $10 and jumpin on expresss train at HK station and going to Hong Kong Island and just going for a wander rund Vic Park and the harbour, some of the shops in Causeway Bay and lunch and then head back with an hour to spare.

you wouldnt regret it if you did it, HK is a really cool place and if you stay on HK island you are always 200 metres from a train station.

We flew back to Oz last May via HK.We had debated on heading to the city as we had 6 hours to kill. However we were both too tired so paid a fee for a lounge. It was fine actually.Had a nice relaxing shower, went into the lounge, had some nice food, drinks etc, went for a wander to the duty free shops, returned to the lounge, went for a massage, more drinks, free use of computers,so would recommend it.Had we not been so tired though its fair to say yes we definately would of took the train into the city.

Question Re: Hong Kong Changeover

We'll be stopping in HK for about 6 hours. How much does it cost to use a lounge?

I think there are two lounges, one was about £120 for a family, the other was £80 per family.
I think the first one includes showers and massages.

What kind of food is available as kids can be quite fussy. Was there enough computers for everyone.
Any restictions on food or drinks.
Are the towels and shower gel provided/included.

From memory I think it was around £30 each.Abit expensive maybe but after having a nice hot shower, change of clothing ect,it was well worth it and it set us up nicely for the journey from HK to Adelaide.

They had a good variety of different food available, from trad asian to western hot food, sandwiches, cakes, yoghurts, nibblies ect.No there were no restrictions on how much you could eat or drink either.Plenty of hot drinks available, lots of different juices, cans of soft drink and so on.I think they had around 10 computers and only 2 people were using them.I guess that would also depend on what time of day you land in HK.Yes towels were provided,as were sachets of shampoo conditioner, and body wash.It was a nice quiet area, and it went surprisingly fast considering we were there for 4 hours (well 6 all up in the airport but you take 2 hrs off for landing and departure). They also had use of newspapers, magazines. We would highly recommend the massage, you'd be surprised how tight those back muscles are after a 10 hour flight!
