Default Hong Kong Airport

Hi Guys,
We are flying via Hong Kong in September, and were considering picking up a new Video camera nad Digital camera from one of the airport shops, as we only have about a 5 hour stop over.

Just wondering what the prices are like for things like these in the airport and are they much cheaper than the UK?

Also would like to hear people experiences of Hong Kong Airport in general.

Cheers

Dom

I passed through there a few weeks ago. It's not that cheap - I wouldn't bother. Singapore airport is cheaper - and the new terminal 3 there is much nicer than HK airport as well.

HK Airport also won't sell you duty free alcohol if you are flying to Australia. It makes no sense to me?

New airport these days - on a man-made island - no flying over the skyscrapers any more.

The old airport was almost in the city.
Landing and take off between skyscrappers was spectacular.

I was lucky enough to do Kai Tak (the old one) from flight deck in the good old days. Quite simple really - aim at mountain - when you bottle it do hard right (as per video) and drop quick onto runway! Easy!

In fact I was told it was one of the few airports in the world you could land there until you had an "introductory" flight so you can see hands on how its done. Most they can check in sims these days. I believe Funchal s another like that - again quite hairy!
