Re: 'Healthy Inspirations'
Well........
It's a ladies only gym/diet/coaching kind of thing. -It's a diet plan based on low GI/ portion control with a food diary in which you tick off your meals/daily portions. This diary also has your weight loss graph (very motivational) and your goal statements and promises to yourself. There are different 'plans' depending on how much you need to lose. Not sure if everyone does it, but the first week is called 'Healthy Quick Start' it seems to be very much like the Atkins Diet....no carbs, very little fruit, unlimited fat, dairy and meat.......I was a bit dubious, but it did what it said it would and banished all my cravings by stabilizing my blood sugars. -Three times a week you get a 'daily visit' in which you sit down and go through how your doing/feeling with a consultant.....this along with the diary makes you very accountable. -At the centre there is an exercise circuit which takes half an hour to complete. It consists of a cardio warm up, then twice round various resistance machines (timed one minute intervals on each) to build muscle tissue.....then a bout of more intensive cardio ending in a cool down and stretch. Personal training sessions are available at set times too, just rock up. What you have to do, depends on your physical ability and your personal goals. What you personally want to achieve is assessed and discussed on your first visit...and your body fat percentage, height and weight recorded...oh and a photo taken  The only 'catches' that I can see are that you have to sign up for a year (unless there's a deal on) and that you are expected (but don't have to) buy these protein bars (or shakes/snacks/chips/biscuits) that are used as snacks twice a day. One pack of bars for example costs approx $56 and will last you 24 days.Another definite downside is there is no creche for small kids, although the centre is open quite late and Saturdays. They allow well behaved kids to sit and eat a packed lunch/read/colour in etc, but they are not allowed near the equipment. There's a joining fee...can't remember right now, but think it was around $120, then a weekly fee dependent on what plan you are on....mine is $29. There are options to mix it up ie do exercise only to cut the cost. It works for me :D (especially the high tech massage chair in the aromatherapy room ;)), but I do think you have to be mentally ready to lose weight all the same. Your percentage weight loss percentage grouping is recorded on a big chart on the wall for (all to see) and you go up a step when you achieve 20%,40%,60%,80% and 100% of your goal weight loss....each step you receive a reward.....ending in a makeover/photo shoot session when you get to your goal. There is then a maintenance plan to go on to make sure you don't regain the weight...it aims to change your relationship with food and get you to monitor your food choices automatically. Hope this helps :) Jan |

.....only another 5-11kg to go :) I thought I'd be fat and frumpy forever :( I'm SO glad I popped in one day, rather walking past as usual. Jan (feeling rather more like a 'Jan' these days) |
