health and safety on constuction sites

Re: health and safety on constuction sites
I agree those are working on UK sites. There is also supposed to be a site induction for every worker when they first enter the site. This is supposed to be a H&S induction, it is also where you show your CSCS card and they take a copy for office purposes. Unforunately it doesn't happen, or if it does not very often.

Re: health and safety on constuction sites
Standards are set at a federal level which have no legal status in each state however each state are expected to incorporate them into legislation.
The following link might help:
http://www.ascc.gov.au/
The whole H&S framework in Aus is based on the UK system (Robens - if you are a H&S proff) and is risk assessment / management based. The legislation varies slightly through each state with NSW / Vic setting the precedent that other states follow.
If you have a specific question or concern pm me and I will try and help.
There is a requirement for construction induction which is more comprehensive than the UK CSCS.... e.g. In NSW it is the 'Green Card' which if you are working in the Construction Industry you might have heard of as it is recognised in all the states and seems to be the most common. The following is the link for the National Code of Practice for Construction Inductions:
http://www.ascc.gov.au/ascc/aboutus/...uctionwork.htm
As you probably gathered I work in H&S - construction based and am a National H&S Manager covering all States.

Re: health and safety on constuction sites
i don't know what sites you have experiance on but i think you will find its a legal requirement to sit an induction before you even set foot on the job also this is where you give your details of cscs and any other certs you may have i'm sorry but every site i have worked on for as long as i can remember i have had to do this.
Yes, the site inductions are a legal requirement, but it appears not all sites are adhering to this.
OH has been working on a site since before Christmas. He's still waiting for his site induction and has not been requested for his CSCS card as yet.
