Default Happy Mothers Day

Or not??

Is it simply a cynical hallmark card day for gift grabbing mothers to screw another present out of their poor kids/spouse... Coz lets face it... Its Dad who pays for it isnt it?

My feelings are somewhat divided on this issue

My head says... Hallmark Con

My heart says... I would LOVE some cheat needles from the sewing shop, or some quilting fabric from spotlight.... Or some new bobbin cases for my janome 1600.....

The original Mothering Sunday used to be a day when people went back to their mother church (where they were born)- the poor had the day free from work so that they could attend the services.

Today it has joined the bloated consumeristic feast that marks Christmas and Easter, with the original religious purpose totally forgotten.

However, it is nice to have a day when if I choose to I don't have to do housework (apart from the ironing and cooking two meals) and I get extra hugs from my family. And I get control of the remote - mwahahahahaha!

Thumbs up Re: Happy Mothers Day

I was going to get the wife a 3g Ipad.... however looks like she is going to end up with a very nice dressing gown, some body shop goods, and a decent scarf from me apparently, according to my 17yo. She went shopping with our 14yo yesterday, and came back with the above.

First time they've voluntarily gone shopping together, without any intervention/suggestion from us. That alone was reason to be more than happy.

The kids will buy me a card - but the biggest present is that I'll be treated like a princess tomorrow.

Youngest is cooking breakfast, Middlechild is doing dinner and Eldest is making tea. I won't have to feed (or clean up after!) pets and I shall slob around all day in jammies.

Fantastic.

During the week I spend what seems like all my time driving one or t'other of them back and forwards to the train station - slobbing out all day in jammies is an occasional treat (I'm not quite bogan enough to risk driving in jammies.. although give it a couple of years and I could be there)

Anyway, aren't you heading back into work? Or do you wear jammies there too?

I am being cooked roast rib of beef. Yum. WITH gluten free Yorkshire puds. Even more yum.

Was meant to be doing the Mothers Day Classic in memory of my Mum but have been told knee is farked via MRI this week so husband has gallantly said he'll take my place so our 7 year old can still do the 8km walk. She wasn't happy with my suggestion of just doing the 4km.....determined little thing she is!

I feel sad that I'm not doing it (first year I haven't done something) but truth be told, the weather looks dodgy tomorrow and I really would be in a lot of pain if I did it so youngest and I will do the drop off/pick up........

ROMFT is now cursing madly having discovered that Mothering Sunday in Aus also coincides with mine and the kiddies birthday weekend

I've just done the ironing tonight so I don't have to do it tomorrow. Aren't I thoughtful?

Only an hour till wine o'clock!

I started wine an hour early in honour of Mothering Sunday eve. Any excuse! That and the fact I'm still getting over the Cats' poor performance today.......

Good god, why on earth would he go to HN? I'd sooner pull my eyeballs out than give them my money.
