I was an honorary Australian for the day

No prospect of a MBE for me for that - Home Office employees only!

I'm glad to hear that the High Commission still does this. When I lived in London years ago I got a Garden Party and Trooping the Colour (my +1 went to Royal Ascot as well; I couldn't go, boo hoo). It was a very memorable day, and seeing HM The Queen in person was a highlight. I found once I'd done one royal event (and presumably passed the test of minding my Ps and Qs), invitations to various things the High Commission was involved in started coming in fairly often. I went to various church services and civic functions in the presence of Her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family. There were all great outings.

I also think that not all the states celebrate the day today - I'm thinking WA has a different day but can't be bothered to Google (slack I know)
I do think though that some of the other commonwealth countries celebrate the day too, but again not googling.

On the whole subject of public holidays, don't think we get more than 8 do we? (We being SA just in case )
Ours is in October. No rhyme or reason but no argument either.

We’ve managed several Anzac Day and Commonwealth Day services at Westminster Abbey with various more minor members of the Royal Family although those don’t tend to be oversubscribed. My other half will qualify for ILR next year so 2019 will be our last chance

Long Live Her Majesty The Queen of Australia 🇦🇺

We observe this holiday in this country in her capacity as the Sovereign of Australia 🇦🇺 not the UK.

This public holiday is another reason why Australia should not become a republic. Although maybe we can have a President’s Day instead like they do in the USA 🇺🇸.

Of course I would wish that had been me but I think it is wonderful that this has happened for you.

I love it in fact.
