I paid to see Marillion once, I blame youth and the promise of cheap cider.

Have you ever developed standards of any kind since then? :sneaky:

hmmm.... tough question....

The Levellers - Glastonbury '92 (and again in '94)
Best Glasto atmosphere ever (all though Rolf Harris and Tom Jones both came close) and the ironly of 60,000 uniformly scruffy stoned youths all singing in unison, "Theres only one way of life - and thats your own.." still tickles me.

Also notable (to me - but of no significance whatsoever to the world in general):

Alice Cooper "Poison tour"- Wembley Arena '90
Memorable for me as much for the theatre as the music - and of course the drama I had of being late back to Waterloo and missing the last train back home. 2 of us attempted to sleep on a bench - but nearly froze (it was January) so tried running up and down the escalators to the tube station all night. At one point we were asked if we wanted a cup of soup by a homeless shelter person - who them rescinded the offer once they worked out we werent homeless but were just waiting for the next train! We promptly fell asleep as soon as we got on the train down to Basingstoke and woke up just after the train pulled OUT of Basingstoke station!... Off we went to Winchester and waited again for the train heading back the other way and once on THAT train a ticket inspector then got confused by our completely invalid day-return tickets between B'Stoke and Waterloo for the previous day. Fortunately our appearance rather backed up our tale of woe and he just laughed at us.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Poole Arts Centre '89?
Hardly a gig of worldwide significance - but it was my first serious non-classical live music event. I was jammed right at front and centre and was transfixed by the display of awesomely virtuosic guitar-wanking. I walked away with a souvenir plectrum - my buddy scored half a drumstick... and we were both deaf as a post for 2 days afterwards!

Nope, my playlist can go from Tom Waits to Las Ketchup to Kenny Loggins no problem at all.

+1 on The Levellers by the way, had a great time at one of their festivals on the Isle of Wight many moons ago.

Love The Levellers. I saw them at Aston Villa Leisure Centre, Cambridge Corn Exchange & somewhere else too but for the life of me can't remember where it was.

I quite often have very loud Levellers afternoons when I have the house to myself

They came to Liverpool Uni a bit before then and I produced the advertising poster. It was great seeing people nick copies.

The Beatles were really quite good as well in Manchester.
