I love fresh cooked beetroot and eat them like apples, it's a shame me hands end up the same colour as my hair.

'mmmmm beetroot reminds me of my grandparents , they used to use a pressure cooker and cook loads, then I used to sit and eat it on it's own warm - takes me back does that, much better freshly cooked than pickled.

Not read any of the replies simply because the very word makes me heave. I don't even like picking up the tin. Hubby used to grow his own and I'd have to go out for the day when he and the girls would harvest it, boil it - vomit - and pickle it - vomit again. If he hadn't cleared up completely by the time I got home, I'd go out again and get myself a takeaway. A tinge of pink is all it takes for me to lose my stomach.

Thanks Poll. I now feel queasy

Firm yet wet and slightly salty
A cleanly taste thats sweet not malty,
It truly melts upon the tongue
But note some red in pee and dung!
