Got whooping cough...
Yep, 41 and have whooping cough.
Adults should have boosters every so often... so here's a reminder to go get yours. Apparently there's loads of cases of Pertussis everywhere...
Adults don't usually get the same symptoms - the whoop noise is usually missing and it starts like a bronchial cough.
In full swing, you're throwing up and waking up feels like you're drowning in your own lungs. It's pretty unpleasant. I've pulled all my back muscles last night mid cough.
I'm in touch with all those people I've seen in the last week who'll need a week of antibiotics to be on the safe side.
Book a booster.
If you're anti vac, move on, nothing to see here.

People thought I was strange for getting a booster last year
I had whooping cough as a toddler and was never vaccinated until my doctor insisted on the booster (combined with tetanus booster, which is what I'd asked for).
Take care.

But anyway, I was going to offer up a treatment that helped us when we were going through it a couple of years back. It was my husband (who ironically had gotten a booster and was up-to-date) who brought it home to everyone. And yeah, he was a mess for about eight weeks.
But I'll move on...get better soon. It isn't pleasant by any means, that's for sure.

I thought I was being told to move along. *wink*
No worries, PMing you. It's just about time to get the kids off to bed, but check your inbox later tonight. I want to include the medical lit for the basis of it otherwise it's just too easy to dismiss as airy fairy hocus pocus, although truth be told, by the time my husband was in the midst of his bout of it (complete with the rib-cracking, gagging misery), you could have told him it you were giving him pixie dust and if it made any difference in how lousy he felt, he wouldn't have cared.
Chat later...hang in there.
P.S. My last round of it was decades ago and it lasted about eight weeks for me as well and I remember it oh so well...

Re: Got whooping cough...
I had a booster last year but was warned by the GP that there are lots of strains of pertussis and the vaccine I had only covered some of them.....
Still worth getting it done I reckon but be aware (like Japonica's husband) that you are still susceptible to pertussis (just had to type that for all the s's and p's!!!).
TP, hope you are feeling much better soon. A friend had it last year and it sounded horrid. Hugs your way.

Re: Got whooping cough...
I reckon the Wife has got this as well., Had the same symptoms for almost Two weeks now. She's calling it bronchitis though. I keep saying to her "Are you sure it's not Whopping cough" ? Nearly over it now. It;s put a right dampener on our 4 weeks off.... not exactly condusive to romantic nights.
