Default Google Chrome is lovely...

So who's tried the new Google browser? I got it this morning - lots of nice features.

Google will be the next Microsoft (but better, obviously!) within 10 years I reckon - everything they touch turns to gold at the moment...

Impressive, but do we really need another browser.

This smells of Google trying to position this browser as the host platform for it's Google Apps OS.

From what I've read, I don't think they're trying to hide this fact.

I only have two issues so far.

1. My hotmail only seems to work in classic mode so it's lost a bit of functionality.

2. I can't seem to find a button that will highlight the words on the page that I've searched for. I didn't think I used it that much but apparently I must be a lazy reader!

If you like speed, get Firefox 3.0

Hate the interface. Totally underwhelmed by the whole thing. Will be sticking with Firefox for the foreseeable future.

Plus this is pretty funny - http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3121/...633f072e_o.png

Lovely, reminds of some Windows errors I was looking at on YouTube.

I use Firefox 3 at the moment and like it alot - however initial thoughts are that I like Chrome more. Speed is not the only thing which make a browser 'top of the list' and I think the interface and underlying architecture of Chrome tick all the boxes for me.

Haven't even looked at IE8 yet - but I don't think I'll be downloading it any time soon.... !

Hmmmm... Everything they touch turns to gold....

Maps, Google Earth, Google checkout, all great ideas, not profitable though.

To me Google looks like a cashed up, very intelligent company throwing money around at Ideas desperately looking for another profitable revenue stream other than click through advertising.

Reminiscent of Lotus in the early 90's when I worked for them, trying to come up with the next trick after Lotus 1-2-3. They thought they'd got it with Lotus Notes, and I suppose in a way they did. They got bought out by IBM for $5 Billion, just for the Notes department.

And to the other poster who said of Chrome, "be fair, its only a beta!", its the industry joke that everything google does is always in beta. Is gmail out of beta yet?

But you've hit google's philosophy smack bang on the head there - they are continually updating and continually listening to customer feedback to improve and develop their software to be the best it can be. They do not say 'here's your software, take it as it is and we may issue a patch in 18 months time to fix all the crap that's wrong with it'. Their philosophy seems to be 'here's your software and it's as good as we think it can be at the moment - let us know what you think and we'll make it even better PDQ'. Very, very open and very refreshing.

IMO anyway

OR:

"It crashed and you lost all your data?? Well what do you expect, we told you it was a Beta?"

No legal liabilities there.
