Fund Raising Sausage Sizzle - Bunnings Joondalup

Hi Cresta57 it went very well thank you, in addition to the money collected (which will be sufficient for the defibs) it was a great opportunity for PR.
Lots of youngsters sitting in my driver's seat with my helmet on, switching on the beacons, that kind of stuff. I love it, it's great fun...

We train in using defib units as part of our first aid training but the brigade don't own one.
We're trying to raise some cash to buy one of our members a special T.V & remote. He suffered a serious aneurysm a few months ago & has been left quite badly disabled. A sausage sizzle at the local Bunnings has been offered so it's good to hear they do raise cash.

Fantastic result Renth. I was busy yesterday but had I known you were letting people play with your helmet I would have cleared my schedule

Nice one, it's always good to hear of a win. Our brigade 2nd officer has just become community liaison officer & she loves getting us out & seen in a positive light.

Might raise a few extra $$ if I can persuade people to throw their money at the Rurals instead of the SES chocolate drive for a week

It could be argued that the City ought to fund them but they do support us very well financially and otherwise. We have excellent trucks and equipment generally.
There does have to be a line that needs drawing sometimes, defibrillators are not standard issue equipment and neither are air pumps for inflating our tyres after we've been driving on soft ground, these are up next on our shopping list.

Our first vehicle, 1979 HZ Holden ute, was donated to QFRC in 1979 by the "Queensland Backseat Racing Drivers Club" which was a group of racing driver's wives who raised money by holding stalls, raffles etc, so you could imagine how many raffles and stalls they would have to have (especially in the 70's). We still have the occasional sausage sizzle at Masters stores, but it's just as much of a recruiting /flyig the flag exercise as fundraising.

Renth, so glad to hear you had a great fundraising event. I am secretary of a motorsport fire and rescue club (Qld Fire & Rescue Club Inc) that has to find the budgets for trucks and equipment, so I can understand how tight money can be.

We are looked after pretty well but it's not an unlimited supply of money, a line has to be drawn and we need to raise funds for the "nice to haves" like Defibs (bit more than a nice to have if you are in atrial fibrillation though!), pumps to inflate our tyres after we have let the air out for soft sand plus next up we are after a TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera) for when we are mopping up in peat and ground fires generally.
All good fun and a good PR exercise, you know letting the little kids sit in the truck with the helmet on whilst you chat up the yummy mummys (I don't do that though - happily married!)
