From the Federal Govt/Abu Dhabi....

Dubai has negligible amounts of oil, it imports oil!

PS: The Govt of Dubai is pretty much bankrupt now. Huge borrowings with no hope of repaying their debts.

Dubai has some indirect taxes (rent tax, municipality tax...etc), but no income taxes. They're planning to introduce VAT sometime in the future.

Yes, you are right. $100kpa is not is not worth what it used to be, but given the average salary in australia is currently $64,641 (according to the Bureau of Statistics) I think anybody in Australia earning the 'average' salary would love to have a 'high' salary of $100k......................... even in WA where, taking mining and O&G into account , payscale.com says the average WA salary is just above $87K, I think a lot of people would like to have an annual salary of $100k.

No, you're right $100kpa is not 'wealthy' or even 'rich', but for the majority of australians its comfortable (and even in Perth there are a lot of people that would kill relatives or close family to have that level of income)

Anybody in WA or anywhere else in OZ that earns 'above average' salaries should be very very very careful in what they say to others cos you might just find that somebody earning 80k will be very resentful of someone earning 100k saying they are 'poor'.

My point is that there's probably very little difference between earning 80k and 100k in terms of what you get after tax and Centrelink payments. There's also a whole section of rich/comfortable Australians who dodge paying their share. I never mentioned being poor, by the way.

What is the average salary in WA?

Indirect taxes are fine. Income tax is theft.

You mean similar to people who are on vast salaries, telling people to stop complaining about paying the levy?

If you earn $100k then you will pay 0.5% on 50k which is $250,or as the lady said ,slightly under $5 per week..

Now if you earn $110K you will pay $250 plus 1% of 10k,can you work that uout all by youself, easy isn't it.

Gillard probably can work out the maths,it would seem you cannot.

Now to collect it,when you get your tax rebate could they possibly deduct $50 from that rebate and call it flood levy.Or if you owe tax could they possibly add $50 to your bill under the line called flood levy.Or would something so simple be far too complicated for the majority of people to see.Baffles me why the human race has great difficulty in seeing the bleedin' obvious

Could Henry Ford be right ' the hardest work a person can engage in is thinking, very few people will engage in that work'.

Geordie downunder
I can do the maths - and making it sound that earning over $100K would mean around 5 per week is not correct that figure just keep on increasing and I will be paying around $850 per annum which is not $5 it is over $15.

As far as collecting it - not everyone gets a tax rebate - in fact a large majority do not and have to pay on top for medicare surcharge levy and additional earnings outside PAYG - I for one would not fancy finding extra money in one hit. Now it has been said that the application method will be as an additional payment on PAYG - thi is from the treasury site

http://www.treasury.gov.au/documents...d_Levy_Q&A.pdf

so looks like payroll systems will need to develop and test the solution which is as I thought it would be an additional cost and effort.

In my opinion the levy has been rushed out - smoke and mirror flowery speeches about what it covers and does not cover and downplaying press releases on actual cost. There are many other ways to implement this I was speaking from being a payroll developer. There really was no need to get so nasty and pious in your response.
