Saw it done for real once looked a very painfull experience... the zip that is not the teeth.

OK. You don't need sprays, nets or electronic zappers. At the start of the fly season you just chuck sommat big and dead over next doors fence.

It also works if you leave dog muck at the bottom of the garden - they go for that instead of you.

I've done the Aussie salute a few times outdoors like Jad says.
The 'body snatcher' flies seem to get particular bad on a few days in summer but can't say I've ever noticed them all the time. We will be installing an Arkon style zapper this year as we've renoed the pergola. Lovely it is.

What's the zapper? Is this a kitchen style elecrocution thing? What makes them go for this more than you?

I get bitten in bed all the time. When I get my new place, I'm getting a mozzie net over the bed.

oh yes!! many flies here in Perth...open your door for one second and the house is full of the god damn things..my cat eats them all though
