Strange question, but I'm moving over in the new year and I'm trying to decide what things to bother to bring across. I spend a bit of time here fishing and I'm wondering if I should bring my fishing gear over or if I'd need all new gear for the type of fishing in Australia. I mostly fish with fresh water gear here, on the rivers and lakes mainly for pike and carp.
Thanks for any advice!

Well initially it will be NSW but may well move about after so not sure where we'll settle. Is there much fresh water fishing there? Especially of the type practised in the uk?

Your pike and Carp gear will be fine for shore and estuary fishing.
Decent fishing tackle is horrendously expensive here.

There is fishing for native freshwater fish but it is mostly lure fishing but you gear will be OK if using bait.
There is a major problem here with people killing fish for food...especially amongst certain ethnic groups who ignore bag limits, minimum size etc.

Check out the forum at carp.com - they have an active Australian Fishing board, unless, of course you‘re the fellow who posted the same question on there a few days ago....... then you already know. :-)
