Feeling crap

I gave up smoking yesterday and haven't had a smoke for 48 hours now. I gave up before so know how bad it can be, but I still feel crap :(

And I'm not getting much support here at home, as another smoke just gets sparked up

I'm going to try to stop once the house is sold and everything is sorted out. It's not something I'm looking forward to because I remember how ill it made me feel last time.

I really feel for you, you need to ban smoking in your house (sorry cas :o) it's the only way you will do it.

Keep it up, apparantly the feeling goes after 3 days, although I never got that far, so don't know if it's true.

Physically you're free after 3 days, but the last time I gave up for 6 years and wanted a smoke virtually every day at some point

You shouldn't try to give up while there are other stresses in your life. It will be too much, but good luck when you try. Set a start date, that's what Cas has done...Saturday for her, but I'm suffering now :(

Stick with it. Benefits far outweigh any mild discomfort experienced.

My start date is set for the day we fly out of the UK. I figured with all that time in the air without a cigarette I may as well try then. That's providing I can stop myself lighting one up as soon as we clear the airport in singapore.

Not a bad idea, although the trip can be quite stressful. I had in mind more like just after you've settled in. Like a new place and a new start. Personally I chain smoked for 4 hours in a horrible little room at Hong Kong when I flew out :(

keep going mate.i am intending to give up once we are settled in oz.at the moment everthing is to stressful and i know i will be stressed at eg kids 1st day at school .However i am banning smoking indoors as soon as we arrive and in the car so this should help us cut down before attempting to give up.i would love to stop now but when i get stressed i rush for a ciggie and they are keeping me sane.I do not drink so this is my vice.I hope you keep it up and ask for full support at home.nikki

I can't even do a full night at the minute. I don't actually wake up for a cig, but when I do wake up (usually around 3am) I have to have one or I can't go back to sleep :o

I know the feeling.

I stopped on 1st Jan with all the other lemmings. I'd had enough of smoking so it's actually been quite easy. only problem, I don't eat any more, I just gorge

I've had to join a gym again to help me keep an eye on my weight. the alcohol consumption has risen as well.

Then it would have been clear in December - lungs do not get better that quickly unfortunately. :D

It's totally down to frame of mind at time of giving up. I tried for ages to pack it in and it never worked. Then one day, I came to the last few of some duty free and thought "I will never buy another pack" and can honestly say hand on heart, from that day I have never missed it, craved it, I didn't feel the need to eat loads and didn't even get grumpy (well, no more than usual ;) ) even though Hubby was still smoking - He finally gave up about a year ago.

I don't know why it worked that time but I had obviously subconsciously got the right date :) Good luck to anyone doing it. I certainly wouldn't have tried if going through the migration process though

Good for you - I did it cold turkey - bloody hard - but best thing I ever did.

The worst time is the first 3 days - it gets easier after that, you still crave but not as often and not for as long.

I have been stopped about 8 years now - and I occasionaly get a slight twang of a crave - but doesn't last longer than a second or two.

The rule is - just take one day at a time - don't think 'I can never smoke again' just say I am not having one today - then get up each day with the same saying.

always remember though - ONE drag on a fag - WILL lead you to be hooked again and take you straight back to square one - so the thing that keeps you going after day 3 is - I don't want to have to go through the last 3 days again!!

Haha - know it well - tucked down on the ground level round the corner from the Starbucks! It was grotty - helped me quit after we got back actually. :)

Well it's been a bit better today. My kidneys haven't ached liked they did yesterday, and I've hardly coughed at all although I still have a bit of a sore throat. I haven't craved a smoke yet today, although I've felt a bit lost at times :D

I think the feeling lost is one of the worst bits. You'll have to find something to play with ;)
