Donna. Donna, Have you tried just warm soapy water to get the suncream off?? As far as your guests go, I would just sit them down and talk to them. If they dont like it, then buggar them....as you say its your home. I must admit its horrible when things like this happen. Hope you can sort something out!! Hels |

Re: Enoughs,enough!
Lots of warm water and keep wiping the area to lift the oil.
I would suggest you get some old bed sheet and put that down on the sofa to protect it further. Sounds like your guests dont give a toss, I would ask your husband to have a word in his friends ear. Good Luck

Good Luck thanks folks for the replies, this is going to be a very long three weeks :o Malcolm, had a word, so we will see if that has any effect!!. Donna |
Re: Enoughs,enough!
Get a hose.
Wait for them to come through the door. Then give it to them full blast. They should get the message. |
Re: Enoughs,enough!
I dont think water is a very good idea if the sofa is soft leather (I presume you mean suede?). In general leather & water dont mix (particularly suede), if its plain leather best off to try a saddle soap which is specifically designed to clean leather, if its suede Id be calling a professional cleaning company & giving them the bill, cos suede can be ruined so easily.
Good luck with them Donna. |

Re: Enoughs,enough!

Re: Enoughs,enough!

Re: Enoughs,enough!
I always used to find that getting our kids to say something really loudly used to make adults listen.......... like were not allowed to sit on the sofa without havin a shower first. And Muuuummmm are we allowed to leave stuff lying around now!!!

Re: Enoughs,enough!
Just stand in the room where the crime was committed and shout (making sure they are close enough to hear) who the hell did ***, for god's sake, was it you (name a child you have already warned) and see what happens :D You might have to bribe the child but hey, if it works ;)

Donna. I used warm water, washing up liquid and a flannel and just wiped and wiped but very gently and it all came off. Good Luck with the visitors, if I remember right you hardly know them do you? rather you than me. |

Donna. If they're not pulling their weight try prompting them. Like do you need a bin for that dirty nappy on the windowsill before the bugs get in? or Do you want a hand cleaning that suncream off our sofa? Don't know but if you've tried everything else then you could always try that. Cheers and keep shouting Ginny |
Re: Enoughs,enough!
I know exactly where your coming from Donna.
Our guests arrived 4 days before our house was completed and we all moved into the house together. Brand new furniture is wrecked, the dining table I wasn't even allowed to sign invoices on has deep pencil gouges in it the new lounge suite has been urinated on a couple of times and to cap it all one of the darlings just crapped on the toilet floor and walked it all through the bloody house. They go home on Monday thank **** and I've told them they can come back when they're 18yrs old. Stupid things get to you after a while like putting perishable goods into the freezer for a couple of days until the morning the bin men come. The row I had with the MIL over placing left over prawns and squid into the freezer instead of the bin was lost on her for 2 days now a week later we have a house full of bloody flies and it's my fault for eating the sea food. Anyway I've got to go the men in white coats are waiting with my new straight jacket. |

Re: Enoughs,enough!
its funny that i saw this thread coming and not bordy :D
Dove soap donna. wet the cloth and rub the cloth into the bar of soap. get plenty on it and then bring it to a lather on the leather. dont use just any kind of soap pal. the wash off with a clean cloth dipped in water. oh make sure the water isnt too warm. ;) and this thread is a pain in the arse, do u know how hard it is to type SOAP so many times without adding a Y  :D |

Re: Enoughs,enough!
Your place is a bit crowded at present, isn't it Mr Cresta. I should ban the kids from coming back until they can fetch the right beer when asked, and take the shells off all the prawns. Having said that, whats left of the house is lovely, and we might visit again when its quieter :D

Re: Enoughs,enough!
Don't get angry....get even. Slip a new and completely open tube of tanning cream into their suitcase on the day of their departure. To add insult to injury their clothes will smell like stale biscuits too... :)

Re: Enoughs,enough!
Donna.............we are aving the same trouble, only with rellies!!!
Micks sister and her family are here and they are really taking the pi*s. We hve put them up at our rental house free of charge of course. They have zilch to pay.........even the phone is free up there. But still they want more. Each night when I get home from work they rock up with their kids.......who then whine that they are hungry. EVERY night for the past 6 weeks I have had to cook for 10. Even over christmas she didnt help.........says she is on holiday!!! |
Re: Enoughs,enough!

Your more than welcome to visit the door is always open, you might wanna knock though ;) I could be sat in just my jocks :o Booking the carpet cleaning man to come and clean the suite Monday [thats when they leave] wonder if he charges extra for removing urine stains  |
Re: Enoughs,enough!
Cresta, i'm suprised they haven't been found loating face down in that little paddling pool yet  You could always take to night fishing EVERY night between finishing and starting work. I'm dreading my lot coming - we didn't speak for 3 years and diplomatic relationships we only re-opend about 4 months before we emigrated. Should be fun when they are here for 6 weeks, then her's come later in the year for 2 months..... spare room anyone - I'm pretty quiet and don't make a mess. She has me reasonably housetrained and I can cook LOL

Wow sounds like a whole bunch of laughs you've got coming. You know where we are if you need to go away on business for a week or so ;) |
Re: Enoughs,enough!
Well it gets worse, daughter went up to her room today to get changed (we gave them Dani's room as it has an en-suite) she shouted down a few moments later saying her bathroom door was burst  we ran up to see expecting a dent or something but no a bloody hole the size of a fist  I have a washing bin behind the door & the door has been rammed so hard against the washbin its burst a hole in the door.
We're both seething, they were all out at the time Dani found it,a few hours later they appeared & Malcolm explained to them what we had found & asked if they knew how it happened?they said they had no idea & thought the door was always like that  they could see we were mega pissed off & have said they will try & repair it. Cant believe they would of just kept quiet about it! Ive cleaned the suite up,used some wash liquid & gave it a good wiping but its left dull patches,I'll try your dove soap idea Soapy & I'll get some Saddle Soap tomorrow(didnt think you could still buy that,i remember my mum using it years & years ago!),that should bring the colour up i think. We've told them not to allow their kids on the sofa when they've just put cream on them but with a 11/2yr old & 4yr old they've got a job on their hands! I put a dark throw over the sofa,so if the kids do go on it,it will show up :p Thanks for all your comments & support. Donna. |

Re: Enoughs,enough!
My God, reading some of these posts makes me realise that most of the friends and family that we have ever had to stay are almost normal (with the obvious exception of MoneyPen)
Cresta - I had to laugh at your prawn shells. We had some prawns just before Christmas and MrsD was about to put the shells in the bin when her sister stopped her. SIL wanted MrsD to put them in the freezer (err - I don't think so, the freezer was full of food) or failing that suggested MrsD went up the yard and buried them. Why? So they would not smell. They were triple bagged and the binmen were coming in the next day or two, so they were hardly going to cause a problem. Fortunately, I knew nothing of all this, so when I saw a bag of prawn shells in the middle of the kitchen floor I just picked them up and took them out to the bin. Also, we have one of those great fly catcher things that was doing sterling work attracting the flies away from where we eat and trapping them into the smelly bucket thing. Well, it was working fine till BIL decided it was smelly and moved it right away from the house, so all the flies were then attracted to us and the food instead. Ah well, we survived and they have all gone. Now got to get ready for my barking mad parents who come out in April. Cheers, DagBoy |
