I need to keep him and not let him escape as he needs to cook for all our visitors while I entertain on the patio... .

With my cooking skills nobody would be daft enough to ask me to cook for 10 unless they all want pancakes.

So sorry its not going well Donna. I find it difficult when people stay as I'm a very private person and need my own space to get away from everything etc It must be hard, especially as they're only aquaintences really. Its going to be a very long 3 weeks!

PA, shippers are coming and I have some scrummy strawberry Boots stuff for you! Can't wait! :D

Donna, so sorry to hear that you have the house-guests from hell but why on earth are you putting up with these people, when they are taking the pee and abusing your hospitality?? Sit them down and very firmly but politely tell them what the ground rules are - this is YOUR home, for goodness sake - make it clear that they either play by your rules and respect your home - or they can go and find themselves somewhere else to stay.

Hey man, I might as well perfect something :D

I ruined it with some semi-intelligent thoughts on laptop-buying the other day though.

As I say, have a Happy New Year, do try to keep a perspective on things old chap though or you'll never be happy in whatever continent you happen to be living on!

Donna and Malc,

We've been through this sort of thing twice now, with two different lots of visitors and the simplest thing is to TELL THEM!!!!! :D

If they don't like it - so what? If they kick off - Would you really want them as house guests again in the future? Do you really want your sofas wrecked again? Do you really want to have to put up with reaking dirty nappies around the house? Nope, didn't think so.

Do what we did - tell 'em how it is - this is our house, you are more than welcome but give it a bit of respect. If not, then fork out for a hotel.

You'll be surprised and pleased with the result you get. ;)

And the world might be half surrounded by terrorism but I never heard of dirty nappies being involved ...maybe theres an idea for Dubya...

Shame you cant fill there bed up with sun cream for their return and put some shitty nappies on a heated windowsill. Yes you will have to clear it, but it might put them off staying.

Make loads of mess for THEIR room and cook all the things they hate.

Better yet, put some itching powder in their bed and get your husband to make a hissing noise outside their room when they're asleep! Oh, and the reply about taking a dump on THEIR windowsill had be ROFL'ing! :D

Yes the recording of hissing would be good.

Pubic lice, fleas, scabies - any decent contagious disease is good.

Or, you could remove the bed and say 'OOps, sorry, bed broke, you dont mind sleeping on the floor do you?'

And then put a super dooper large Huntsman in a flimsy container and add 'You don't mind sharing with Bruce, the most toxic spider EVER do you?'

Hubby is away back to work today :( glad in a way as he is ready to say something he may later regret, thing is Jamie is his mate & he's quite easy ozy, every day you get him the same way,but his wife is a lazy sour faced bitch, doesn't do anything except stick her nose in a book & read all day. They have two young kiddies & neither can be bothered with them, they seem to do as much as is necessary,no sort of interaction, play etc..the wee ones bum doesn't get changed unless he has a dirty nappy & most nights he's popped in a cot without any tea, first day they were here i was so shocked the wee fella only had a couple of chicken nuggets & a yogurt all day long, cause he threw a tantrum at tea time he was put to his cot  He's such a content wee fella too, probably got used to amusing himself & now its normal.Their wee girl is 4 ( i thought my Luby was small for her age, she's double the size & weight,4yrs also),she just sucks up every bit of attention she can get from others,....such a shame :( its horrible living every day witnessing the way they bring their kids up,not much i can say without offending.

Bizarrely my sister does this to me when she comes over. Because shes a 'guest' in my house she expects us to look after the kids, that includes feeding and changing them! Her view is 'well I'm the one on holiday'! Its so frustrating!

Problem is if you start looking after their littlen, changing and feeding him etc they'll expect it!

Yes thats just what they do,even down to pushing the wee one in the buggy!Hubby sat & fed their wee girl & boy at tea times just so WE were content they got enough food into them during the day.
Stopped doing it after a few days though as the parents just buggered off & left us to it,plus we have 3 of our own to see too.
If this is the way things are in our house, how the hell do they manage back home?,more to the point how the hell do the get away with it?
Ive got to laugh the mother stuffs her face with smoked salmon& philadelphia inbetween her meals & cant even sort a simple snack for her kids

I find that thought quite upsetting that her little ones are so neglected.

ahhh poor you! are they paying you anything towards the stay? It must be costing you money? I think when we get back and get visitors, rules are needed! right off to bed this end, soooo tired what with work and packing up the house!

Re: Enoughs,enough!

Why would they come on a major holiday like this with two little ones when they are not visiting family or very very close friends  I would never have put any of us through that, whether we had "free" accommodation or not.

Give them a ring and tell them something has come up and it not now possible to put them up when they come back but you have the number of a really nice caravan park. Cheeky sods, taking advantage

Re: Enoughs,enough!

We most certainly wont be having them back to stay with us if the do come to Oz again,we've learned our lesson! also i would seriously re-think any decision to have any friends/family stay at ours EVER!!
Its ok for a couple of days, then the novelty wears off very quickly,Hubby & i both like our own space too much & we have our own three kids to concentrate on.
Hubby had been speaking to a few of his workmates & they stated they would kick them out,one thing where an aussie attitude would come in very useful at the mo! aussies just wouldnt put up with this carry-on!
Thing is if it was just the two adults, dont think i would give it a second though but dont have the heart to do it when kids are involved.

Ps,anyone know where i can buy Saddle Soap for my suite? tried Coles,Woolworths,Big W.

Donna,

Whether or not you tell them they're doing your head in is one thing, but you must tell them they're sh*t parents.

If this doesn't make them buck up, at least they'll be pissed off enough to leave.

The downside I suppose is whether the kids take the backlash from the parents.

Paul.

Thats dodgy ground Paul, all we can do is make sure they are looked after while living under our roof, we both also have our suspicions that Dad of the family maybe a little too keen on the beer & the wine.

You're all making me start to dread our friends coming over. The friends I can handle, it's their kids I wory about!! - Their (just turned) 10 year old can sit and quite happily work her way through a 12 pack of Walkers crisps in one go and the older one is just a horrible kid. Not often I say it about anyone, but I can't think of one positive thing to say about the oldest one (a girl, 15 y.o.). Want to see the friends - just a f*****g shame they'll bring the kids. I think a padlock for the fridge and all our 'good' stuff locked in a strong box in the garage. Thinking of buying a second fridge so they can have 'their' food seperate as I can't afford to but all those crisps while they are here. Watch this space.....LOL - fortunately we have until July to psyche ourselves up.

We have two fridges, we emptied one and they use it (when it suits) she lets the kids open our;s and take as they please, it winds me up no end. A lesson learned, it's just a shame the experience of having Friends (used loosely as we dont know them that well) has been soured by people who have no respect for other people's property.

It just mean's now that when real true friends want to come you will be dead against it. Different standards for different people i suppose, but in the first place i would not have dreamed of spending 3 weeks in another persons house.
