It was ace up here in the hills, epicentre just a couple of Km from me. You could feel it 'move' into, through then out the otherside of the house.

Only if the epicentre is out at sea. There isn't much sea up in the Adelaide Hills.

Is the magnitude of an earthquake in direct proportion to the 'boringness' of the epicentre?

Some might think that the earthquake in Adelaide is the most exciting thing to have happened for a while.
After all, it's nearly another 12 months till Clipsal/Fringe/Womadelaide - the city has only just recovered from some frenetic activity
