Hi Alistair

There are multiple companies supplying Aluminium and timber double glazing in Victoria, and at least five that I know of supplying uPVC.

We bought from Certainteed, their thicknesses are 5-12-5 which is even better than we had in the UK. The product is made in the USA and shipped here to be assembled. Others use the Kommerling profiles as mentioned before.

Probably the best aluminium windows are the Vantage brand, bear in mind though that the worst uPVC are twice as good as the best aluminium!

What a fine fellow you are. That is very good info, thanks muchly. I have secondary glazed all the windows except the road facing ones where proper stuff is needed re the noise. How do you find the 5-12-5 for noise? 6.3 laminate and 4 would in theory be better.

To tell the truth Alistair we live in a very quiet street, the kind of street where if a car goes past while you're in the front garden you look up to see who it is!!! So maybe we're not best placed to advise on that.

For heat retention its excellent, the temperature during the night only drops about 4 degrees inside, without the heating on at all.

If you venture into Melbourne at all, Ross Wilson at Certainteed runs free evening Energy efficiency seminars, he's 67 now and was the first person in VIC if not Oz to be selling uPVC double glazing. His seminars are pretty interesting and inform all about the different types of double glazing, without directly telling you to buy his!

Heard Jason Windows is building a factory at the moment for double glazed windows. However, haven't heard it directly from them.

Perth Double Glazing are based in Rockingham - easy for you to get to from Australind.

How much it costs depends on how many windows you have, how big they are, how many window openings you want (e.g. just one per window or two for a large window), whether you want the outside pane to be standard 4mm glass or 6.38 laminate glass ...

Simply go and talk to them. They are nice guys.
