Double Glazing in Perth
 

Does anyone know what an approximate cost would be for double glazing a smallish 3 bedroom property in Perth?

Anyone have experience of getting it done, and who they'd recommend/avoid?

We've got double-glazing :thumbsup:.

I originally got quotes from Perth Double Glazing and Enviro Vision. Exactly the same product (Koemmerling profiles), but Enviro Vision were much more expensive.

We went with Perth Double Glazing and are VERY happy. (In the end we even ordered our front doors from them. :thumbup:)

Our builder had never worked with European style double-glazing. Stef, one of the installers from PDG, came out to our site several times to show the builder what to do. PDG have always been professional and helpful.

Now we are in our house we love the double-glazing. House is cosy and warm and we don't hear the cars driving down the road in the early morning or the work on a new road 500m behind our house.

Owner is called Dave Southam. PDG are in Rockingham but very easy to get to from NOR and they supply from Geraldton to Albany.

ive spoken to dave a couple of times,he was very helpful and to be honest the cost of his product was no more than one of the big companies that supply traditional aussie windows..

We were at the home improvement show a week or so ago and there was a mob there selling double glazing (can't remember their name but they advertise on TV). Their product looks great and certainly seems well made. The only thing that put us off was that their windows and doors are only available in white - a colour that would definitely not work in our house as all our window frames/doors/floors are natural wood coloured.

Good point. I think the newer plastics are better for this but in 10 years? We've gone for the tinted comfort glass (which has great thermal characteristics according to our builder) in some of our rooms and they definitely seem warmer this winter.

Can you tell me what thickness the panes of glass are and what the gap between the panes is? All I've found in Victoria is two 3mm panes with a 6 mm gap - which is harldy worth it. It's that size as they are still insisting in fitting it in a standard frame. Any help on this would be appreciated.

They windiws I saw the other week were identical to the ones you get in Europe, in fact the salesman said that they use a German design. They looked the business anyway.

flippin amazing that they dont have them here,the heat,the cold...hoons..the aussies liking to save money...there is no structural reason why they can not be used...i just cant work it out...

Sounds like you are looking at aluminium frames with double-glazing. That's not worth it.

PDG (Perth company) used Koemmerling uPVC profiles - not aluminium.

Our windows are 6.38mm laminate glass for the outside pane, 4mm glass for the inside pane, with a gap of 14mm between the two panes.

Our builder was pushing us towards that as well. Yes, they are better than "ordinary" windows - but can't hold a candle to double-glazing.

(There is a standards website that lists the different companies and their window products and provides ratings - can't remember the website, though, sorry.)

Okay thanks for that, I'll do more research. Should anyone want to know, two diffferent thicknesses of glass are best for noise insulation. It helps to stop the resonance.

I remember reading that since we signed the Kyoto protocol, all new developments in Australia are required to have double glazing.

Sadly I can't recall where I read it to provide a link, but if this is the case, then there are an awful lot of developments in Sydney that aren't complying...
