Must admit the their and there one does irritate me. My daughter has come home from school with 10/10 on some of her English work and when I've checked it have found mistakes. If the teachers aren't spotting it, what hope have the kids got.

Sometimes it's not the kids at school who make the grammar mistakes

My son got a merit award at school for outstanding spelling, and the teacher had spelt his name wrong on the certificate!
Bad spelling and grammar do really annoy me.

I've pointed out far too many spelling/grammar mistakes made by teachers over the years.

I tihnk the old lower-grade white collar worker thing is generally done badly in Australia - mass generalisation - but things like Medicare, Centerlink, RTA work well nonetheless.

Couple that with eccentric work legislation and govt style practises in precisely these jobs and its no wonder that clerical routine white collar worker migrants seem to cop it so much.

You should have written wrongly not wrong and to be really pedantic I prefer spelled to spelt. I always think of wheat when I see or hear the word spelt.

OMG- spelt has been bothering me for years but I've begun to think spelled is incorrect as I never see it used! I too think of wheat with spelt and I shy away from writing either spelt or spelled as I never see spelled but spelt feels so yuck.

Do you by any chance mean the greengrocers' apostrophe, Hutch? Because I believe they *all* use it. <g>.

And learned, not learnt etc. Different from, not to. The less and fewer thing really bugs me. I'm always correcting (nagging?) my kids about that one. I'm a very boring parent! Mind you, when they come home from school with incomprehensible instructions for homework, it's probably a good thing that I am a bit anal!
