Durr does anybody else have the same problem? Yes, it's you... Never reads an email from IT Dept or Network Ops...But then moans about not being told :frown: How do I know? Because there is no way IT dept would be able to email you if email isn't working! They emailed you before the email went down... D'oh:p |
Re: Do IT nerds have sense?
I think people mix common sense with practical ability, or, even manual skill or craftsmanship. It's fair to say that people who hone their skills in particular environments get better at it.
I've met people who will dismiss graduates as having no common sense but yet can't get on in life, are always in debt and have poor relationships, and poor judgement. Many graduates with degrees often have reasonable judgement, and therefore common sense, even if they can't sand a floor. They may never have practised it enough. Some (a minority) of IT geeks could do with broadening horizons a tad but this last 10 years the Internet has made them very respectable, IMHO. |

So what was actually bust?
There are more than 1 way of accessing the office emails: Outlook Blackberry web based outlook via exchange server pop3 etc Maybe they sent the mail so that the managers with Blackberrys could let the minions know that outlook wouldn't be working for a while? Its all well and good taking the pi55 but we know what we meant.:frown: Sorry, IT nerd:ohmy: |

And that's how, sucker that I am, I ended up starting a degree in computer science - complete with modules in degree level maths. Funnily enough I had no problem with the subject matter (despite getting my A'levels in arts-oriented English, Geography and Economics) but had an epiphany one day in a tutor group. I looked around the classroom at my fellow students and said to myself, 'Jesus H, if these are the people I'll be working with when I graduate, then I'm off'. And so I dropped out. And ended up working for HSBC on the currency trading floor where I had a similar epiphany and went back to college to do the English degree I should have done in the first place. Even funnier then, I suppose, that I ended up working in the geek industries anyway ... :D |
