Most original post in ages! I've seen cars with those factory fitted carpets and don't have an issue with them. Mrs B's Dash is dusty and maybe a carpet would actually help.

Taxis seem to have them, yes.

Maybe we should start a thread on whether your Falcon has a bench seat. Or a dash parking brake.
