Just a little of subject, but I have noticed alot of motorcycle riders now wearing hi-vis fluro vests over leathers, jackets etc too.

Same here. I have had a few spills, mainly due to exhaustion! Sore on the elbows......

Road biking is just awesome fun, and really popular here. Some great runs on bike tracks too.

I am tempted to wear cycling shorts when I ride my bike to beef up the toe a bit.

I used to have those on my bike but car drivers kept mistaking the front flashing light for indicators

Just kidding. ;)

Re: cyclists

My husband is a cyclist and he wishes cars would stay out of the cycle lane. :D

He also pays registration for his car.

I think people who find cyclists annoying are just jealous because they are fitter and healthier than the car driver. I know I am.

For anyone who is interested in Melbourne the Veteran cycling clubs are good for those who still want to have a race. My oh was a member for years and is thinking he might give it another go soon.

I have a bike but hardly ever get on it. I do believe its the way of the future though and not just because its cheap for getting to work way of dealing with the big bulge that is affecting the population.

Re: cyclists

i am not jealous in fact i am a runner who is probably fitter than most cyclists and while i am on my soapbox, lycra is a bit of clothing that shall we say only a certain part of the population should wear, not very flattering for a person of the larger variety, just stick to a normal pair of shorts and t shirt
A bit like speedos at the beach.
oh i can feel the replies coming thick and fast to that one

Runners are dangerous too, they charge around the city and are quite frightening :D The Tan comes to mind.

I pay car rego but mostly ride my bike ...

If i had to pay rego for my bicycle I'd ride on every road taking up a full lane at a cycling speed that is comfortable for me ... so would 1000s of other cyclists... cyclists that don't currently ride that way.

I'm a cyclist. I pay rego. Apart from a few exceptions like motorways, most roads are legal cycle lanes.

Some cyclists are annoying, especially the blinged up Cadel Evans wannabees. Some car drivers are annoying especially the dicks who think they own the road.

Some (maybe even a lot of) people get annoyed by people who are not in the same group as them. It's a tribal thing. Next time you drive count how many times you are held up by a car and how many times you are held up by a cyclist. Then wonder why you rage against cyclists not cars?

Live an let live, I say. There are dicks everywhere. Forcing cyclists off the road will just force more people into cars. How is that going to help the situation?

They're not much good for illuminating but they are better for being seen. The flashing lite attracts a driver's attention much better than a constant one.
