About three weeks after we moved into our last house in the UK, I woke up in the middle of the night hearing strange noises. Woke hubby and told him to go look
Just as he walked downstairs there was god almighty banging at the front door and shouting. I looked out of the back window and saw about three shadows running around. Hubby sort of opened the front door to find an armed policeman - the guys in the garden were armed as well. They were after the previous owner
Didn't sleep much that night
Hope it's only debt they've left behind hon
Just when it all seemed to be rolling along so well.

The guy owes this money to some company in Bathurst. I'm told that the courts will grant an order, which will mean at settlement, the money will go from our bank to the conveyancer, whereupon it will pay off their mortgage, and then the remainder will be split 50-50... half going to them and half to the company.
Considering they're in debt by $120K, it seems this means they've made a whacking profit on the house.... or something somewhere is wrong with the figures. This info came from the REA.
The info from the conveyancer is that she's being summonsed to have *ALL* the money held so that they don't get anything.
Not sure so far.
I think it's reassuring that these people are being persued for their cash. So they should be. No carpet should be allowed to get that filthy.

Shit iP, hope it all works out okay. And hope the buggers get caught and punished for doing a runner (and having dirty carpets).

Well we received a call from our conveyancer this morning to tell us that our vendors have skipped Australia owing 120,000 Aus dollars worth of debt.
This has meant that our lovely, sweet, very hard working conveyancer has received papers to summon her to court tomorrow.
Apparently a legal firm are trying to claim some of the money from the house sale.
I am not sure how successful this will be or whether it will slow our completion (we're due to move at the end of next week). Is our house at risk?
Anyone have any idea?
Having been at the house this morning, I notice that there is a load of mail, all looking like unpaid bills, which means we'll be getting letter after letter and then debt collectors arriving at our new house once we're in there. We noticed the phone hasn't been cut off... so we'll be having issues with that, because our broadband is meant to be installed next week.
There's also letters from their bank in Spain... I'm sure the legal people might be interested in that.
Apparently even their own conveyancer can't get hold of them.
So if you're thinking of skipping out on your debt, be very careful.
So a message for you, Mr and Mrs ******, British couple returning to the UK, thanks for the hassle, the worry and the stress.
Thanks for being pathetic human beings, cheats, thieves and liars.
No wonder you wanted to leave so quickly.
I hope you get caught, I hope the judge seizes all your profit and I hope you have a really miserable time back in the UK and in Spain.
I hope it rains on you every day of your sad little lives.
Oh and acquaint yourselves with a vacuum cleaner next time you have carpets. Your floors were disgusting.

PS - I'm giving all your mail and bank statements to the legal people.

Soon found out they owed EVERYONE money,we started to get companies ringing all the time and two people came to the house! We explained the situation and started opening all their mail,we returned all bills with a covering letter, after a few months it all died down. Then we get a letter from the couple who sold us the house asking if we could forward their mail to an address in uk! We sent this to all the companies
We probably shouldn't have bothered but their carpets were minging.
Hope it all works out for you

Good on you Al. It's such a nuisance having to sort out other people's crap, esp when you're meant to be happy and in your new home.
I rather hope they're reading this... you never know.

See, it was the carpets all along.
The lesson here is don't leave your carpets dirty, folks. Otherwise karma will come and bite you on the backside.

It begins.
Because they haven't cut their phone off and paid the bill, we can't have our phone line installed. Nor can our BB be changed over.
Our conveyancer has to fax through our contract, to prove that we now own the house, and then we have to follow this up on Tuesday to make sure they have the fax and can cut off the phone.
If the phone isn't cut off, we can't swap the line.
I'm expecting some incompetancy with Telstra obviously ... they probably won't get the fax or they'll screw up.
Now to deal with water, gas, electricity, and council...

iPom,
don't know what to say...you really don't need or deserve this.
All I can say is hope everything works out - quickly!
If it's any consolation it's not just you! My previous buyer (as discussed in my other post) is now trying to sue us for mis representation!:curse: Don't want to say too much on a public forum but my agent and solicitor say it's bollox and he's just trying it on.
Don't worry, it'll all come out in the wash

What the....What a load of low life scum, iPom. You don't need extra hassle like that when you're about to move. Poor you.
If there's anything we can do let us know - maybe we can all help you hunt them down.
