Default Changing the name

Hi all,

My wife has a long name ( 4 names alltogether). She want to change her name to make it short. What is the procedure to follow ? We can apply for citizenship next year, so will it be easy to change at that time or still the same procedure ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Muditha

If she wants to change it, do it before applying for citizenship, as then her citizenship certificate can be issued with her new name on - saving possible problems and explanations in the future

Probably don't even need to go through the process of officially changing it. When I applied for citizenship the DIAC person at my "interview" changed the application to be without my middle names without any issue. My UK passport doesn't have any middle name on it, he noticed that and asked because I had put down my middle names on the application for citizenship - so my citizenship certificate and Aus passport does not have any middle names on them.

I must admit I got mine issued in my maiden name while all my other ID was in my married name, as I was in the process of getting divorced. I was thinking of it just being easier if the name change is done beforehand - saves long-winded explanations to the CO etc!
