Hi Dougie!
We have a Mazda 3500, (started life as a school bus) and she is great!
We came to Oz for a year in Dec 07 and had decided before we arrived that we wanted to buy a camper. On arriving we found that December is a bad time to be looking for one as everyone is on long summer breaks and wants to go traveling! Still we eventually found this one.
I think you have to decide exactly what you want it for, ie you would have a very different "weekend" van to one you would want to live in for a year.
We started by looking at lots, and then having a mental list of our "essentials" Seeing as we would be living in it for a year, i wanted us to be able to stand up inside without stooping, there to be a permanent bed (ie not have to convert a sofa) and a loo as we wanted to do mostly free bush camping.
Anyway, we LOVE our bus and since we've had her we have looked around lots of other peoples campers and RV's and i wouldn't swap!
We use diesel and on open road get around 7.5-8km to a litre, so can do around 600km between refueling.
If you want to see some pics of her PM me!
Claire
