I like it too. Sometimes people just want to spit the dummy just for the sake of it (and then need to make sure everyone knows. If your going just go)
The amount of help this forum (and the sub forums) has provided over the years has been huge for many people. Not just information wise but also emotionally. People have got support in relationship break ups/ bereavements / homesickness etc. Some good people have organised and others carried on meet ups etc which have helped many all through here. This place is , in parts, all what is good about the internet (even allowing for the distinct lack of porn).
So there is some down time for backups and other stuff there is no need to go in to, so what? big deal. The essence of BE remains. And long may it.

When we were doing the visa thing Sean & I would fight over the PC for access to BE. We would avidly read every thread devouring as much information as we could. It was our bible, it helped us no end with everything from TFN's to X-Rays
Since we arrived I've kind of lost interest a bit, I only get to pop in every once in a while when the O/H is out. He's on here all the time & has been for the last 6 years, he loathes Aussie telly & refuses to watch it. BE is his escape from reality T.V
I don't know the ins & outs of the latest spat, I don't want to either. I just think that BE provides far more than just answers to questions potential migrants think up, it provides a whole network of help & support.
It's very sad that when people choose to leave a forum they don't just stop posting & leave. They have to turn it into a huge dummy spit, write long posts about how it's all crap now, how much better the latest fad site is etc etc. It's all quite over dramatic really

I'll always love B.E - I think it's a great site. The other site is great too.
I've not been posting much because of my personal circumstances and wasn't intending to post at all anymore now that I'm not going to be an expat.
However the kindness I've been shown on both forums has just been fantastic and made me realise what brilliant people i have become friends with.
Like most forums there are ups and downs but the spirit of both sites is one of friendship, support and having a laugh.
Long may both continue

The thing is Deb I believe this site is crap.....to them.....now.
I believe a large part of the issue is that they have outgrown this site.
They need more or should I say something different.
I can understand and appreciate that.
A new forum is the right decision for them if they are going to become testy and frustrated on this one.
A new forum will actually rekindle their spark.
Of course I would prefer they stayed as members here so they could pop in occassionally.
I have been on this forum for a few years now and it is quite different to me. I don't think it's the site that has changed though...it's me.

I post on DAF.....it's bloody great.

I post on here...it's bloody great.
Bloody great has a different definition in each case.
They each offer me something the others do not.
