no idea, my kids think little fairies come with tooth picks and make them(they only can eat small amounts thats why the wholes are left)

its funny but you come over as quite a sensible person

Well...........Crumpets and pikelets are made from a pancake type mixture which has had bicarbonate of soda added.
Pikelets mixture is just a spoonful placed onto a hot plate hence the irregular shape and thinness of them.
Crumpets mixture is spooned into a pastry ring on a hot plate hence the thickness and defined shape.
The bubbles are created by the bicarbonate of soda bubbling when it gets warm.
The way they are produced also explains why they are only brown on one side.
