Re: Blood in the water
I think the Trump invitation is just a confirmation of a visit that was already proposed.

Morrison was never going to get a honeymoon period, but actively moving and courting the far right is exactly the wrong move if he wants to win the next election. He needs the moderates to trust (and vote for) him, and he needs the likes of Hanson and the other loons beaten down, not built up.

Why do those on the left hate democracy so much? That's a genuine question BTW - something I find really hard to fathom

Yet still a legally elected leader of a great democracy and ally - and someone who could very realistically be re-elected in 2020 in he runs (although I don't think he will)

Two unforced errors. He KNOWS how much Abbott and co cannot be trusted, and how they will take any opportunity to seek power. He also KNOWS that nobody sane wants Trump anywhere near them, with him being a focus for both demonstrations, and a rallying point for the cretins.

But do the moderates on that side hold the key to holding seats in the next election? Surely the move Right over time, went to far in the case of appeasement by Turnbull, but the seats need holding appear to be in QLD. The fear of the Right up there seems paramount to remaining in office. As such, I wonder how far a swing back to the middle, the Right will allow? We have seen how destructive this side of politics is.
I'm thinking he's going to try and make off with the silver ahead of the election, that actually fighting it is the last thing on his mind. And given he knows what the real economic numbers are, that's not a good sign.

Plenty of women in the new cabinet. But then again there was before so Labors ploy on that one is again mute.

Inviting the leader of the free world here is the right thing to do

All those things are great - as long as you are prepared to have both sides of the story told - warts and all. Something that is impossible under our current laws

Re: Blood in the water
QLD is but one state. He needs the liberals to be doing much better in the southern states if he is to maintain his new job. Hell, given his unpopularity, he'd need a miracle anyway - but he seems not to realise that. Turnbull managed to lie his way a draw last time with his vapid "jobsngrowth", but Morrison has even less to play with.

That Belgian bloke back in his post. One conniving, self centred fellow is that. Suits the party he claims to be part of, although his antics just display not a man to have by your side when the chips are down. Full respect to Bishop to not wanting to be part of those ill disciplined, egocentric bunch of career narcissists.

Probably pretty much what will happen. A few populist sweeteners, in an attempt to arrest concern from QLD right wingers fearing their salaries, I mean seats, with as little as possible that will startle the horses, until post election if they win. Depending on how the Parliament will look, a preference for unleashing another pro big end of town economic manifesto.
