I truely feel for Pauline. Both of my inlaws died at a time when there was no way that we could get back. I was lucky enough to be in Scotland when my father died but had the 'flu and couldn't fly when my mother died. I hope this is a lesson for all migrants - immediately you get citizenship apply for your passport, you never know when you will need it. I sincerely hope that Pauline has no hassels, things are traumatic enough just now.

Sorry to hear this Soapy. It really does bring home how far away you are from family at times like this.

So sorry to hear your bad news, Soapy. I hope all goes well for Pauline and her family at this stressful time.

Yup the Tyranny of Distance surely is right.

A friend i made over here says that there is an insurance you can take out for 130bux a year for instances like this, he says ts guarentees you a flight within 48 hrs of " the call " not usre what else you get but might be worth looking into.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all of your messages.

Just to let you know that a very lovely lady from the passport office came in and opened up the passport office and got an Aussie passport issued for me.
Apparently they have an emergency person who works on call for situations like this.

Today I became an Aussie passport holder:

A lot of stress mind you just getting all the stuff together so guys if you become a citizen try ( and I know that the dough can be a problem) and get an Aussie passport, I think that this is something they should explain when you change your status.

Again thanks for all of your kind thoughts

Must admit we got hubbies recently but left it a while, ours are still pending. There are ways round it though its just a pain at passport control thats all and hassle you dont need. Cousin travelled with nothing one time and they sorted it all out for him on route.

Hope it all goes well, we had the phone call for hubbies dad 1 year after arriving and MIL is 82 now so the call could be anytime. I am sure she will live for many years to come but you never know.
