Never had maggots as far as I know and I think I'd have seen them, our bin rarely smells and don't see many flies around it. All our rubbish gets bagged and then put in the bin which is emptied weekly. We (sorry, he) probably gives it a rinse out once every six months or so.
Wouldn't dream of paying someone to come round and clean it
and don't remember seeing a van around doing it for anyone else, unless they're pretending to wash dogs - stacks of them about.

Here in Adelaide we don't have many problems with our bin becoming infested. However the Council are threatening to change to fortnightly collections. Can you imagine that in 40 degree heat.

I agree. In the UK our rubbish was collected fortnightly and it caused so many environmental problems - flies, rats, foxes etc that the local council had to revert to weekly.
