You get poor standards everywhere, of course: in building, services, politics etc.

What makes it different here is that it's accepted as normal, up to the rest of the world (Aussie Aussie Aussie) and, so long as the surf's up - who cares?

It's a big country and a small population......

Very true, I agree it's not exclusive to Oz what gets me is the attitude as I'm a whinger because I didn't like the colour that I didn't pick.

Another example, when we moved in the site manager says the cast irom inspection cover that goes in the driveway is coming as the guy wont drop it untill you're there as they cost $200 and he doesn't want it knocked off, so when it arrives I'm busy.

Later on I look at it and it's all rusty, the next time the site manager comes round I tell him and he shrugs his shoulders and says "well they all rust eventually" so i say to him I've paid $200 for a new one so I expect it in new condition, he shrugs his shoulders and looks confused by this and phones up the supplier who says the same, but I insist he gets me a new one he looks at me like I'm whinging but does it.

id check everything first and not part with 1p til im happy.

id get a surveyor in and get the termite man in and id stand there every day while they are doing stuff

id only let them do anyhting if it went through me first, like a site supervisor if im paying em then im the boss

but i wouldnt have aussie builders unless they were recommended

the same applies if i were in the uk,

id advertise on here for builders, plumbers etc coming from the uk with an offer of sponsorship if this is legal to come and work on my new house.

but we aint building so ill shut up

Itll all be over soon frasier, jut keep dancing

Yep that's definitely the way to do it, when I said this to our site foreman he said "yeah but you wont get any good tradesman as they're all already sighned up by the big builders" I didn't know whether to laugh or be very afraid.

No, sadly Fraser's story is typical. Having a house built in Australia is almost always a total nightmare. I saw some stats about it somewhere - they were horrifying. :scared:

Do a search for posts on this topic from a poster called Nibbs (one of my co-workers) - horrific, he's been here 2 years and I don't think they've even started yet, but want more money.

Possibly because you are in respect to the world outside yours. I have good friends up in Cairns who have built, and know of others in various places around the country who have also built and they have all had excellent experiences with their builders and the houses are of a very good standard.

There are obviously crap builders everywhere as there are electricians, lawyers, plumbers. Unfortunately for whatever reason your build didn't go well but people who have had houses built by the same builder have had a very good experience and a good quality house built.

To be fair, the way you have expressed everything Hels is equally as experienced as you. Why didn't you pick all these things up earlier, especially as you have been looking at other houses that the same company has built in the same area?

On what do you base that fact, we've spoke to quite a few people who have used the same builder and only one has been satisfied.

I think if you do a search on here you'll find more negative than positive experiences.

Of course there are people that are happy as there are good builders, but most people we've spoke to all aussies have had bad experiences.

Renth said that he saw facts supporting this, or are you calling him a liar/

Why should I call someone a liar for having an opinion Don't be silly. You seem to have an issue with anyone who disagrees with you, It's life mate, deal with it. I was giving my opinion based on what I have seen and been told by friends whose experience is different to yours.

Why because I didn't start looking until they started building mine, when I saw the state of the frame I started looking at others.

I picked all these things up as the build comntinued which is why I've spent months arguing with them.

I was living in an established area not any new builds, the contracts were already signed by the time I'd moved here.

I don't understand your point about the way i've expressed stuff.
