As the Ozzie's say "he'll be right".
You will find that he will love it when he gets there, it will be you and your wife that will have trouble.

I've explained him what I'm about to do, apologized (as I do 'know' him from BE/but it took some time finding out who he was on BE ), and hope this will sort things out.
And the most important thing I hope Damiean now can really start posting on xpdite without any worries. I already reacted to one of his posts telling him about my son (4) and myself and asking him some questions.
Take care,

Hope it works out okay for all involved. I'd say that online forums were probably the single most useful development to arise out of the Internet, particularly for niche groups like kids moving abroad. Bottom line is, it always helps when you know there's someone in the same boat as you - and that they've survived the experience.

I wish there was a sympathy emoticon here!
Anyone new to a forum is awkward at first, and for a boy of eleven I imagine it's very difficult, especially since he's only just had the news.
At eleven it can be hard to express yourself well even in your native language!
Does your son have hobbies or interests for which there's a Dutch language forum? It might help him to write more about something which he's familiar.

First of all, thanks to everybody that replied to my post. Secondly a real big thank you to Miranda.
I feel better with myself today. spent all day out with the kids, first with them at their rugby matches, and then the afternoon wandering round Tiel.
I dont want you to feel bad Miranda, because all you was doing was keeping a parents eye on the kids forum. I was only annoyed with myself.
Karma for everybody on this thread.
This was my first "down" moment in my move.
Thanks again everybody.

Lots of my mates back in NZ and Oz are Dutch. Dont think your son will have difficulty meeting new friends when you arrive.
Tell him just to be himself. Pretenders dont go down well.

Bears, Luckily where we are planning to go, there is quite a large Dutch expat population, so thats not the prob. It was just the way things went last week.
cheers all.
