Default Australian Sparkling Wine, which is best?

I'm after an Australian version of Champagne. Which would you choose up to $100? Thanks. I'm in Perth.

I think you'd be pushed to spend $100 on a local sparkling wine, and you wouldn't need to. You can get a Veuve Cliquot for less than that.

I'm partial to a bottle of "The Tatler Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir", from the Hunter, and Petersons Champagne House (also in the Hunter) does some OK wines ("Blanc de Blanc" is the one I prefer) but TBH I'm quite happy with a "Jacob's Creek Sparkling Reserve Chardonnay Pinot Noir" for every day drinking.

Don't know much about sparkling from other local wine regions, sorry, but would think that you'd get some from the Margaret River if you want a more local connection.

Absolutely agree with previous poster...and a Bottle of Moet is cheaper still!

yes I know. I have no prob to pick a French, but my overseas visitors know a large variety of French Champagne, therefor I thought a quality Australian sparkling would be something different.

You can split the difference if you like, Chandon is the Australian offshoot of the Moet lot and have some really nice (and not cheap) champagnes that are widely available.

I've paid $42 for it recently in DM (and I believe it has been cheaper, $39 at one stage) - it's $46 in Tesco as a comparison.
