Well at least Little Johnnie is a slave to George Bush. Seemed like a one way trade deal. Australia buys more US pharms at a higher price in exchange for a couple of Monaros that the Americans have now stopped buying. No agricultural concessions. The current resources boom makes life very tough for exporters as the dollar is relatively high. Do Australian taxpayers need to pay $5 billion a year to maintain a car Industry that is increasingly sourcing parts overseas?
I'm not for free trade, provide some protection for local industries but don't encourage or perpetuate inefficiency or lose sight of the smaller market (in Australia's case which require a bit more protection than UK, plus Australia isn't dictated to by EU) and the economic realities of life.
