Now seems like a good opportunity to ask what happened to the Pigeons at Trafalgar Square. Used to 1,000's of erm when I lived in London, there's hardly any now ?

I actually think some were culled, but they also banned the feeding of pigeons as well as the blokey who used to sell birdseed there.

What makes me laugh is the cries of cruelty against Japanese whalers (which for the record I also am strongly against), yet you will find absolute barbarity in some of these culls in Australia. Cane toads as golf balls, horses shot from the air and left to die etc etc...

In my experience no one bats an eye lid about killing things here - despite their comparative rarity. Some of my sailing friends are livid about not being able to shoot crocodiles at will and the concept of fishing to a 'bag limit' is considered something of a joke. The traditional true blue Aussie image is, of course, a dead, outwitted, piscine of some description held out horizontally...a real noble achievement ..
Even some well educated folk seem to enjoy a pig hunt or roo shoot. The irony in the attitude that everything non indigenous should be rapidly dispatched is completely lost as well.....

What amuses me is that all the Aussies complain about the Indian Minah bird, and how it should be killed off. "It's an introduced bird species" they say "It just comes in here and pushes out the native ones..."
Strange really. It sounds like it should be on the coat of arms...
