Under an EU directive from 2009, all British ISPs have to keep details of all users' web use, email and internet phone calls for 12 months, so it's no different there. Newly proposed laws in the UK mean to take this even further.

Australia Post is also introducing digital delivery of government and corporate communication.

http://auspost.com.au/about-us/austr...l-mailbox.html

I believe there's also some plan to have all our medical information (and goodness knows what else) stored on a card so everyone knows what's wrong with us and what medication we're on.

I think we can, eventually, all kiss our privacy goodbye.

Are you serious? It's in an Australian social forum, asking a mocking question specifically of British people in Australia who are described as "kangaroo lovers". Nothing could be more relevant to point out that things are not only as bad but in fact worse in the country that they left to come to Australia.

I'm certain a 12 month old baby would see the relevance so I presume you're trying to wind me up despite the fact we don't even know each other.

Is the OP geniuinely surprised about this ?

Governments have always spied on their peoples. Why are you suprised?
Commerce does it too- if you have a fly buys or woolies card they have all your details and can track what you are spending. Face it, nothing is private any more.

A really good point about commercial spying. Yes all countries do this. The PATRIOT Act in the US is an appalling violation of American civil liberties, the British did the same with the Terrorism Act 2000 and Australia the same again with various acts like Anti-Terrorism Act 2005. The inflation of the terrorist threat to strip citizens of their civil liberties is one of the defining stories of our time, along with the mass tax evasion by the rich. It really isn't just something being inflicted on Australians.

The naivety of some people amazes me. How do they think nonces get caught, without the various governments around the world sifting through the remnents of every inviduals net traffic habits.
